The colder months can get a bit grim when we’re staying safe inside, but luckily we can still enjoy the outdoors by taking longs walks through nearby parks, forests, and wetlands. Before you get suited up for your next leisurely stroll, we highly recommend keeping your feet comfortable and warm with some of the best walking boots and trainers that we’ve picked out just for you. A long walk is a million times more fun when you’re bundled up and wearing appropriate clothing. Depending on what kind of terrain you’re trekking for your time outside, you’re going to want to invest in a pair of shoes that have a good grip on the soles, and a good quality insulated inner-lining. For days when the weather is a bit wet and parks get muddy, a waterproof upper is key; and...
Shoes. Remember those? All right, so we may be being a touch dramatic, but there’s no denying that, over the past year, shoes (and bags for that matter), have taken a back seat and, instead, we’ve developed some new shopping habits. In lieu of treating ourselves to a new pair of heels to wear with your elegant wedding guest dress, we snapped up loungewear, knits, and candles in numbers never before seen. Still, that was last 2020 and right now we’re focussed on being optimistic; optimistic that our daily outfits in 2021 will call for something other than a slipper (don’t worry though, they’re not completely obsolete). So, which shoe trends are we kicking 2021 off with? We’re sure you’ll be pleased to hear that c...
Among the Who What Wear team, I’m known for loving an “ugly” shoe. Case in point: my thoughts on how Crocs are going to be big in 2021. While that might be an “ugly” shoe too far for some, style-adjacent to the Crocs is the clog, which is also coming back for 2021. It might seem like the same shoe but is actually a little different, and (sorry Crocs), much cooler. Last summer, I was drawn to clogs when I spotted Fabrizio Viti‘s daisy versions. I own a pair of the denim ones and while I didn’t have anywhere to wear them last summer, I can’t wait to style them à la Lucy Williams and pair with socks. As for the rest of fashion, I can really pinpoint the moment we turned towards loving clogs and that was when Hermès debuted th...
From royals to celebrities, influencers to editors, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone (fashion-fanatic or otherwise) who doesn’t have an item of clothing from Zara in their wardrobe. The Spanish retailer has developed a reputation for itself over the years for creating affordable trend-led pieces, as well as contemporary basics which can act as the cornerstone of any closet. Though, Zara’s mass-market appeal doesn’t just end at clothing. No, the brand’s footwear is equally as coveted and this winter, in particular, we’ve spotted quite a number of expensive-looking boots among their collection. (Many of which we predict will sell out in no time. Sadly, these styles don’t often hang around for long.) You Deserve to Mak...
If there’s one item of clothing I wear the most during the winter months, it would have to be flat boots. Unlike my ever-growing jacket collection, I find that I tend to stick to one perfect pair, which I then go on to wear until they’re literally falling apart at the seams. Yet for some reason, up until 2020, it’s always been such a struggle to find a style which ticks all the boxes: I need them to be comfy, hard-wearing, not extortionately expensive and, of course, stylish. Fashion has a habit of trolling us with outrageous garments. Crotchless trousers, see-through jeans, ridiculously expensive designer paperclips—all of the aforementioned are very real items sold in the not too distant past. But I’d wager no piece garners as much controversy as the Croc. They are undeniably a divisive topic of conversation and easily the most Marmite shoe of the modern world. I hate to break it to you but they’re making a comeback for 2021, and I know a lot of people aren’t going to be happy about this. When researching this piece, I decided to ask our readers over on the So… Should I Buy This? Facebook group if they love or loathe Crocs and almost unanimously over 60 people replied loathe. Or, as one member so eloquently put it “The ...
True to its name, Shoe Goo is designed specifically for use on footwear, and it’s hands down one of the best shoe glues for just about any style. Shoe Goo dries clear (a must for maintaining seamless colour), and the glue remains flexible even after drying. This product’s good for everything from detached soles to broken heels. Much like everyone in the world, I’d quite like 2020 to be over sooner rather than later, thanks very much. I don’t think I’m generalising when I say that this year hasn’t been the best. So then, you’ll forgive me for looking ahead into the new year and the new season fashion trends to have something to look forward to. On the agenda today is the best new boot trends for 2021. While I’m aware that most of us are set with our footwear for winter right now, there are some genuinely exciting boots trends for the new year. As boots are now a year-round item, they’ll work perfect for spring/summer 2021 with summer dresses but excellent for the colder weather too. Below, there are three key looks I’ve identified from the upcoming collections. While there isn’t anything totally groundbreaking, w...
This year slippers have had something of a rebrand. As we are spending more time indoors, many of us are upgrading our slippers, swapping our tired fluffy chuck-ons for something that is both comfortable, but also helps to feel like we’ve got dressed each morning. To me, my upgrade was a pair of faux fur tan ballerina slippers from Arket. And like any rebrand, slippers have a new name in 2020—the house shoe. The house shoe is more elevated and beautiful than your average slipper, and so it’s perhaps unsurprising that one of the labels behind this is the Olsen twins’ luxury minimal powerhouse brand, The Row. They have created slippers which come in both velvet and leather, and come with a luxury price tag at £600. The Row isn’t the only label which is creating beaut...
Call me nerdy, but I love a good graph. If you’re similarly inclined, then allow me to direct you to this Google Trends graph that demonstrates just how popular trainers suddenly became back in March. I probably don’t need to refresh your memory, but this was the month when the UK went into lockdown and all we could do for weeks on end was leave the house once a day for a bit of exercise. Most took up walking, and some did the couch to 5k, but plenty needed new trainers, with sales booming over that period. Of course, to anyone who loves fashion, sneakers have been a cornerstone of our wardrobes for some time and not just something to wear with leggings and a sports bra. The Phoebe Philo effect means that white sneakers remain a staple for most of us, as they work ...
