Plateau senator seeks Nigerian government’s support for victims of yam market fire

Senator representing Plateau South in the National Assembly, Professor Nora Dadu’ut, has appealed to the federal government to support victims of the recent fire incident that engulfed the famous Namu Central Yam Market in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, of Plateau state which led to the loss of food products and other valuables worth millions of naira. The lawmaker, who made the appeal during a press briefing in Jos, said she was saddened by the heart-rending development, and called on governments at all levels, and well-meaning Nigerians to offer support for the victims to aid their recovery from the tragedy. APC wins Plateau South senatorial bye-election

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in at Saturday’s Plateau South senatorial bye-election, Prof Nora Daddut, has been declared winner and returned elected. Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Lafia, Professor Idris Amale, announced that Prof Nora polled a total of 83,15104 votes, while Hon. George Daika, his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, polled 70,838 votes. He therefore declared Daddut as the winner of the election. Plateau counter NCDC on number of coronavirus cases

Plateau State government has refuted a claim by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, that the State has five additional cases of COVID-19 disease as at Friday, the 15th saying it was only new case that was recorded as the remaining four were repeated cases which were mistaken for fresh ones. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Nimkong Lar who briefed journalists alongside the Secretary to the Government of the State, Professor Danladi Atu, and State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dan Manjang said so far Plateau has only 11 active cases of the disease and all patients are responding to treatment.
