Court remands father for ‘giving out 12-year-old daughter in marriage’
A Family Court in Ilorin, on Monday, ordered the remand of one Oyefeso Saheed in Oke-Kura Correctional Centre, Ilorin, for allegedly giving out his 12-year-old daughter in marriage. Magistrate Shade Lawal also ordered the remand of the victim’s purported husband, Ismail Lawal, 32, before adjourning the case till Wednesday, for further mention. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Akinjide Adisa, said that the matter was reported at Adewole Police Station by Aishat Temem, a member of the state branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA). Two security guards arraigned for ‘stealing’ N5 million drugs
Two security guards, Ali Mohammed, 35 and Mohammed Abdullahi, 25, were on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing drugs valued at N5 million. The defendants, who reside in Oshodi, Lagos State, are being tried on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 28, at Adewale Crescent, Oshodi, Lagos state. Imo governor presents cheques to families of deceased soldiers
Gov. Hope Uzodinma has presented undisclosed amount of money in cheques to six families of deceased soldiers who lost their lives recently while on duty in Imo. Uzodinma presented the cheques on Thursday during condolence visits to the 34th Artillery Brigade, Obinze, the 211 Regiment of the Nigerian Airforce Base, Naze, and families of deceased soldiers. Speaking during the visits, the governor pledged continuous support and commitment to the families to boost their morale and bring lasting solution to the security crisis in the state. Ekiti panel recommends N500,000 compensation for widow of slain SARS officer
The Ekiti State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Human Rights Violations has recommended payment of N500,000 as compensation to Mrs Ogunleye Ajayi, wife of a murdered officer in the disbanded police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The panel, presided over by its chairman, Justice Cornelius Akintayo (Rtd), recommended the payment of the amount at its resumed sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday. Newsmen report that the deceased, Sgt. Musiliu Ajaiyi, was murdered by unknown persons sometime in 2019. Court remands man for ‘plotting’ to abduct wife
An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that Usman Abdulkareem, who allegedly conspired with a herbalist, friend to abduct his wife, be remanded in a correctional centre. The police charged Abdulkareem, a herbalist, Babatunde Mohammed and a friend, Fatai Adisa with two counts of criminal conspiracy and abduction, to commit culpable homicide, contrary to Section 97 and 274 of Penal Code Law.
