NYCN youth leaders ‘missing’ in Port Harcourt
Two members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Napoleon Spiff and Zachariah Levi George have been reported missing after they attended an event at the Ministry of Justice Conference Hall in Port Harcourt. Rivers State NYCN Chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo, who disclosed this said the youths have been missing for four days. Spiff is the Chairman of the NYCN in the Rivers East Senatorial District, while Levi George is the National President of the National Union of Rivers State Students. Ihunwo appealed to security agencies in the state to launch a manhunt for the missing youths. NYCN decries lack of constituency projects in Nasarawa
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), an umbrella body of all youth organisations in Nigeria, has decried lack of constituency project in Nasarawa West Senatorial District since 2011. The NYCN Chairman, Keffi Chapter, Alhaji Mohammad Idris, made the assertion in a statement made available to newsmen, on Sunday in Keffi. Idris alleged that in spite of the billions of Naira released for some constituency projects in the senatorial district since 2011, there was nothing on ground to justify it. He emphasised the need for social infrastructures such as potable water supply, electricity, health care facilities, good road networks in almost all the five Local Governments that made up the senatorial district. Akwa Ibom community destroyed by heavy floods seeks help
No fewer than 100 houses have been destroyed and 300 persons displaced in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State following a downpour in the area. It was gathered that the rain, which started about 3 am on Sunday and ended around 12pm, destroyed houses and submerged large sections of the metropolis. Meanwhile, residents of the area have lamented the effect of the flooding on their houses. A resident of Eket, who simply identified himself as Umoetuk, said areas mostly affected include Grace Bill, Marina Junction, and Udoh Umoh. INEC approves new policy framework for Edo, Ondo states
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday approved a new policy framework known as Policy on Conducting Elections in the Context of COVID-19 Pandemic. The commission, in a statement issued by Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in Abuja said the policy document would be released on May 25. President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has distributed food palliatives to thousands of residents in Damaturu and the six local government areas in Yobe North Senatorial District of Yobe State. The local governments are: Bade, Nguru, Jakusko, Yusufari, Karasuwa, and Machina, respectively. Senator, CAN condemn Kajuru killings, sue for peace
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Uba Sani, and the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have condemned the spate of killings in communities in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state. In separate statements issued on Thursday in Kaduna, they decried the ugly situation in the communities and sued for peace.
