IGP sues Sahara Reporters, publisher over tenure extension bribe report

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has instructed his team of lawyers to commence legal action against the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, over a report by the medium wherein the IGP was alleged to have expended N2 billion on his purported quest to get a one-year tenure extension at the helms of the Nigeria Police Force, spokesman, Frank Mba said on Monday. Adamu was due to retire from the service on February 1 but his tenure has now been extended by President Muhammadu Buhari, albeit under controversial circumstances. Official: Kano government amends child rights act ‘to reflect Sharia’

The Kano State Executive Council has approved and amended the proposed bill on Child Rights (protection) Act 2010 “to reflect the position of Sharia on all sections of the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2003″. Muhammed Garba, Commissioner for Information in Kano State disclosed this in statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Kano on Saturday, Mr Garba said the decision for the approval was reached at its state council meeting in line with the Federal Government policy of 2003 where states were asked to domesticate the bill . He said that the approval was necessary because of the commitment of the state administration on child welfare. Mr Garba disclosed that the state government was motivated to enact the child right bill after it assented to the bill on free and compulsory education....

House of Rep member arraigned over ‘N1.6 million bribe’

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has charged a member of the House of Representatives, Oghuma Egwakhide, for allegedly collecting N1.6 million as bribe from three contractors. In a statement on Thursday, the commission said Mr Egwakhide was charged on a four-count before Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Jabi. The commission accused Mr Egwakhide, who represents Etsako East/West/Central Federal Constituency, Edo State, of collecting kickbacks from contractors handling school projects in his constituency. Court sentences man to two weeks community service for theft

A Grade 1 Area Court, Kubwa in Abuja on Thursday sentenced one Nura Usman, to two weeks community service for stealing one iron pipe and escaping from lawful custody. Usman was convicted and sentenced for criminal trespass, theft and escape from lawful custody. The judge, Muhammad Adamu, sentenced Usman to one week community service with an option of N3, 000 fine for the offence of criminal trespass and theft. Adamu also ordered Usman to observe one week community service for escape from lawful custody. He however, warned him to desist from committing crimes and be of good behaviour.
