The one fashion question I’m asked the most by my friends is ‘where is the best place to buy a winter coat?’ Whatever budget you’re working within, a winter coat tends to take up a large chunk of your clothing budget, and so it’s a purchase that takes some consideration. If you’re able to invest in a luxury label, or want to find the best the high-street has to offer, below you’ll find the 12 brands that I think you can always depend on when it comes to outerwear. It’ll be no surprise to you that a Max Mara coat is our ultimate purchase, however at the contemporary level I’m also always impressed by London-based label Shrimps, new name from Copenhagen Stand Studio and Joseph. When it comes to the high street, the Sc...
If you can find a more iconic fashion duo than the dress-and-boot combo, do tell. This pairing is so easy to fall back on right now when the days are shortening and the weather is dull so we’re not able to get as creative with our wardrobes. Grab a go-to dress, throw on a pair of sheer tights and your favourite boots and you’re ready. We’ve spotted some of our favourite influencers wearing excellent dress-and-boot combinations recently, which inspired us to start the shopping list below. Although you can be pretty safe in the knowledge that most boot styles go with most dresses, these street style looks might just inspire you to leave your comfort zone and try a new pairing this season. I’m on the lookout for the perfect black chunky pair to balance out the feminine ma...
Denim-wise this month, I’m seeing lots of Londoners opting to pair their cosy pieces with longer length, slightly looser jeans for a 2020 update. With Gap’s Sky High jeans, I can stick to my favourite straight leg but try out that fuller-length inseam, which I’m loving. The skinny jean will always be a classic, but straight styles have that relaxed cool-girl feel that reflects London’s attitude toward fashion. Anything with a slightly vintage feel and not too much stretch, and I’m sold. The key, though, is to find the style that you feel most comfortable in and work around that. I spend my life searching for the perfect shade of blue, and I think I may have found it in these Gap jeans. As the weather cools and I pack away my sandals for another season, I’ll be pairing my cropped denim with...
Highlights in the collection include one of the most impressive outerwear offerings we’ve seen this season (the Farren Leather Mac, £899, is a favourite), and its boots are just as strong. After they repeatedly sold out last year, AllSaints has also brought back its two-in-one slip dresses, silky midis with jumpers and tops overtop, which will help you master the art of layering with zero effort on your part. That said, it’s not just AllSaints’s new-in section that’s left a lasting impression. Mid-season sales are often tricky to navigate; the items on offer never quite fit with what we currently want to wear. But that’s certainly not the case where AllSaints’s sale is concerned. With versatile pieces that can be styled in ...
As the weather really starts to turn chilly, we can’t help but quite enjoy it. If only for the reason that we can finally start cracking out our autumn clothes without sweltering. All we’re craving right now is cosiness, in our lives (hello open fires and GBBO) but also our wardrobes. It’s a good thing, then, that Free People’s new autumn collection has just dropped. Although the brand has long been known for nailing summer beach-casual style, we’ve recently come to fall fast and hard for its loungewear sets (are you even an influencer if you don’t own one these days?), anything-but-boring knitwear and great jackets. This new ‘Collective Spirit’ collection is no different, offering plenty of this cosiness as well as ticking off many of our favourite autumn 2020 trends at the same tim...
As far as outfit formulas go, there’s nothing quite as easy to throw on in autumn as jeans, boots, a jumper and a coat. It’s an outfit that can take you seamlessly from Sunday brunch to an afternoon at the pub, and in late autumn it’s probably exactly what you’re putting on each morning before you leave the house. We’re big advocates of this simple structure and tend to live in it through autumn and well into winter, mixing in a rotation of our favourite knits against various pairs of comfy jeans. Of course, each look is topped with a warm coat and a scarf or beanie depending on how arctic the temperatures are. Last but not least are the boots. This item finishes the look and can be used to either dress your outfit up or down. High-heeled boots...
As far as winter outfits go, there’s nothing quite as effective as the humble coat–and-boot combo. Simple though it may sound, the right pairing can see you through the frosty winter months whilst still feeling like you’ve got your finger on the fashion pulse. Whether it’s this season’s favourite chunky-soled Chelsea boots and a checked coat for weekend walks or knee highs with a vinyl trench for when you’re feeling a little fancier, this easy formula is your best friend for every occasion. If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably already been relying on this duo every winter, adding and taking away scarves and knits as the weather fluctuates. Turns out that influencers aren’t any different. We can’t help but notice so many excellent combos on our Instagram f...
It can be all too easy when temperatures drop to a certain (read: icy) level to lean on the same outfits you have for the past few years, huddling up in grey, navy and black knitwear and the same black ankle boots. While you can’t beat a classic, if you’re looking for some new winter combinations, the likes of Aimee Song, Lucy Williams and more have been wearing a number of practical yet still interesting looks you too will be able to wear on repeat until spring. Many of these key items you’ll already own, such as roll-necks and classic blazers, but you can make your winter wardrobe more 2020 with cream boots, teddy coats and leather trousers. Just because you have to make sensible choices doesn’t mean you have to spend the next six months in boring a...
Shout out to everyone who hates summer because right now it’s your time to shine. The weather is no longer sweltering and we can get out the best bits of our wardrobes: jeans and jumpers. But with so many combinations to try, which ones are working in 202? Below, I’ve collected a few of my favourite looks that will work with any kind of footwear you choose—whether it’s still warm and you want sandals (probably pushing it now though) or with your favourite pair of ankle boots. But back to the actual outfits. There’s a short-sleeve cardigan–and–blue jeans look that’s ideal for those warmer autumn days, and is great for wearing if you’re WFH. Then there’s a stripy jumper–and–black jeans outfit, which, for someone who still loves Nirvana...
While every member of the Who What Wear team possesses their own distinctive sense of style, there are a few fashion items that transcend our differing tastes, including jumpers. A definitive cold-weather Brit staple, the humble jumper has been unwavering in its appeal over the decades, variously shrinking down and bulking up as trending silhouettes come and go. The last couple of years have seen a return of the oversize jumper in all its glory. Chunky, comforting, and warm, it never fails to put a smile on our faces on a chilly winter’s morning. There has also been a new-found fondness for the cardigan in all its iterations. From cable-knit fits to ribbed, ‘90s-inspired cropped styles, it’s become our favourite versatile layering piece. There are...
I don’t know about you, but if, like me, you’ve been working from home over the last six months, you may have unwittingly developed your very own lockdown capsule, (i.e., a rotation of staples that you’ve instinctively reached for day in and day out). For many of us, this will invariably include a few more elasticated waistbands and slippers than our normal wardrobe capsules, as comfort and practicality have, naturally, moved to the top of our priority list. For the sake of easily writing this intro, I wish I could claim that my mom and I don’t always agree on fashion matters, that we have completely opposing taste, and that we rarely, if ever, think of buying or wearing the same things. Unfortunately for today—but fortunately in life—that’s simply not the case. In fact, ever since I can remember we’ve been pretty much on the same page when it comes to fashion and style. We both err on the more classic side but can’t resist a truly great trend piece when we come across one. We also like to keep it pretty simple and aim to only buy items that are investment-worthy so they can stay in our collective closets for years or, better yet, decades. In case that sounds like anyone else’s vibe, I figured why not get my mom on the phone (again) ...
