Afterwards Miles Teller spoke to the troops via FaceTime. Sean Penn Screened Top Gun: Maverick for Ukrainian Soldiers Wren Graves
Just a few weeks after returning to the US following his pedestrian flee from Ukraine to Poland, Sean Penn says he considered joining Ukraine’s resistance against Russia. In an interview with the new quarterly magazine Hollywood Authentic, the actor said he only would’ve stayed in Ukraine longer to join the country’s armed forces. “The only possible reason for me staying in Ukraine longer last time would’ve been for me to be holding a rifle, probably without body armor, because as a foreigner, you would want to give that body armor to one of the civilian fighters who doesn’t have it or to a fighter with more skills than I have, or to a younger man or woman who could fight for longer or whatever,” Penn said. “So, where I am in life is short of doing that, but if you’ve been in Ukraine ...

Sean Penn is in Ukraine filming a documentary about the Russian invasion, according to a press release from the Office of the President of Ukraine (via Newsweek). The American filmmaker first landed in Ukraine in November 2021 to make a movie about Russian aggression. After briefly retuning to the US, he was back in Ukraine’s capitol city of Kyviv on Thursday to attend a press conference. For the project, he has reportedly interviewed local journalists, military leaders, and Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk. According to a statement from the Office of the President, “The director specially came to Kyiv to record all the events that are currently happening in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country. Sean Penn is among those who support ...
Starz’s upcoming limited series Gaslit offers a compelling look into the little-known Watergate story of Martha Mitchell (Julia Roberts), who spoke up to the media about the break-in despite being the wife of US Attorney General John Mitchell (Sean Penn). In advance of its April 24th premiere, the cable network has shared a trailer of the star-studded adaptation of the Slow Burn podcast. Watch it below. The preview sees Roberts stepping fully into her role as an outspoken socialite. “I’m a Southern woman, we speak our minds,” she jokingly tells a talk show host. “We never stop talking.” However, the tone quickly turns dark when G. Gordon Liddy (Shea Whigham) speaks about Martha “becoming too much of a liability” after she finds out the truth about the Watergate scandal. In response, she’s ...
Sean Penn seems to never stop talking, and if you accidentally find yourself agreeing with one thing he said, you need only wait for the next dollop of unasked-for wisdom to drop like a turd from his mouth. In a new interview with The Independent, Penn decided to launch an unprovoked attack on the trans community, bizarrely claiming that “cowardly genes” have left modern men “feminized.” Penn was promoting his latest flick, Flag Day, alongside his co-star and real-life daughter, Dylan. “I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminized,” he said. “I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them. There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt...
Growing old is more-or-less a sin in Hollywood, but 61-year-old Sean Penn isn’t mad about it. In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, the actor said he was happy to grow old so he won’t have to deal with the world’s increasingly apocalyptic future. “I’m a little frustrated with the world,” Penn said. “I’m glad I’m old and won’t be having to deal with where this stuff is going.” Penn’s misanthropic comments seemed to be inspired by so-called cancel culture, as he went on to denounce those who pick and choose issues to be upset about. Advertisement Related Video “We give too much of a shit about what we are going to be accused of by people who want to be self-righteous because they can get a quick reward,” Penn said. “And they’re self-righteous hypocritically — they damn this, ...
Flag Day, a new drama film directed by Sean Penn, just got its first trailer and it features an unexpected music cameo. Singing atop the clip is Olivia Vedder, the daughter of Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, with a song called “My Father’s Daughter.” Check it out below. Written by Glen Hansard and Eddie Vedder, “My Father’s Daughter” is a moving number about watching yourself grow into your parents’ traits, whether you wanted to or not. Luckily for Olivia Vedder, that includes being gifted a natural music talent from her dad which she displays in full force on the track. Over slow drumming and stripped-down guitar work, she goes right for the heart strings while violins mellow out the gentle song. Flag Day stars Sean Penn and his daughter Dylan Penn alongside Josh Brolin, Norbert Leo Butz...
Sean Penn is demanding that every cast and crew member for the Starz series Gaslit be vaccinated against COVID-19. Until that happens, according to reports in Deadline and Variety, the actor refuses to return to work. Gaslit explores the Nixon Watergate scandal through the characters of Attorney General John Mitchell (Penn) and his wife, Martha (Julia Roberts). Penn has a few more weeks of filming to go before he wraps, and he recently left to attend Cannes for the premiere of his new film Flag Day. Now, he may not come back. Currently, the studio NBCUniversal requires mandatory inoculation in “Zone A” cast and crew members: people who work in close proximity to the set. The studio also hosts an on-site vaccination clinic, though it is not required f...
U2 frontman Bono takes a solo spin with his vocals on “Eden: To Find Love,” a song co-written and produced by Linda Perry. It’s the only artist-driven tune on the soundtrack of Citizen Penn, a film about Sean Penn’s organization J/PHRO (now CORE) in the wake of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. Perry, of 4 Non Blondes fame, scored the soundtrack, which comes out via Lakeshore Records on May 21. Citizen Penn was directed by Don Hardy and is now streaming now on Discovery+. “My dream was not to be a big rockstar, it was to create music that would play a supporting role in films,” the “What’s Up” singer said in a statement. “Every song I write comes from a visual, not a word, not a strum.” “Eden: To Find Love” includes the lyrics “Out of the ash, out of the dust / ...
The non-profit CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) has announced the two-day Rock ‘N’ Relief livestream to raise funds for COVID-19 aid in Los Angeles. Foo Fighters, Carly Simon, Perry Farrell, and more will perform. CORE was founded more than a decade ago by Ann Lee and actor Sean Penn to help the victims of Haiti’s 2010 earthquake. The program has taken up many causes over the years, most recently the novel coronavirus. CORE is currently helping to operate the mass vaccination site at Dodger Stadium, in addition to providing “equitable access to free testing and vaccines across Los Angeles.” The Rock ‘N’ Relief livestream is being curated by Linda Perry, the former leader of 4 Non Blondes, who has gone on to write songs for Christina Aguilera, P!nk, and Gwen Stefani, among others.
