Report: Newcastle and Celtic told to forget about appointing 60-year-old

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague says that Rafa Benitez will not be the next manager of Celtic or Newcastle United. Benitez left his role as boss of Chinese side Dalian Professional this week and was immediately linked with a return to British football. However, Balague has told the BBC that while there was interest from Celtic in securing Benitez’s services, he will not replace Neil Lennon. He also added that a return to St James’ Park is not on the cards while Mike Ashley retains ownership of the club. “Newcastle is not an option for Rafa Benitez under this owner,” said Balague. “Change the owner and then maybe. “Rafa has a huge respect for the fans, the club, the town. And I feel there is a bit of an unfinished business there.” SL View Given Benitez’s salary expectations, Ce...

Former Rangers star doesn’t trust current Celtic management to spend money

Kris Boyd says that he wouldn’t trust the current management at Celtic to successfully rebuild the club’s squad. The Hoops are currently 20 points behind Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership after struggling to produce their best form this season. Speaking on the Sky Sports Scottish Football Podcast, the former Rangers star cast doubt over manager Neil Lennon’s ability to turn things around. “When you go through the whole process and structure of what’s going on at Celtic at this moment in time, when you see the money that has been wasted on transfers already and then you are saying go and recruit 10 or 12 players, I don’t think I would trust anybody to go and spend the money,” said Boyd. “I think Celtic are in a very difficult situation right now. It’s all well and good having t...

Manager Neil Lennon and his assistant John Kennedy are also isolating, leaving Celtic extremely depleted for the Scottish Premiership game against Hibernian. Many of the club’s fans hit out at the decision to travel for the winter break, while First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also questioned the wisdom of the trip. However, Walker went much further ahead of Monday’s game, launching into a vitriolic rant on Sky Sports. “Apparently there is no money in Scottish football?” said Walker. “I’m guessing this trip that Celtic went on to Duba...
