Before the year even started, Jurassic World: Dominion was postponed to 2022, but fans don’t have to wait any longer to get a glimpse at the latest Jurassic Park installment. Today, Universal Pictures released a five-minute prologue video that sets up the events of the dinosaur sequel. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the franchise’s original 2015 revival before J.A. Bayona filled in for 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the clip offers original content not found in the upcoming film. It starts off 65 million years in the past, when dinosaurs were the dominant creatures on the planet. For several minutes, near silence soundtracks our look at the animals as they live peacefully, swimming in rivers and hunting for food. It’s an eerily immersive clip; shoutout to the eff...

The alien-themed Predator franchise is adding a fifth film — set 300 years in the past. Prey, the Predator prequel, will stream on Hulu next summer. News of the latest Predator film broke roughly a year ago, with word that Patrick Aison (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Kingdom, Wayward Pines) was set to write the screenplay, but the plot of the latest installment remained under wraps until recently. Today, during the Disney+ Day promotional event, we finally got more information about the film, which comes just a few years after Shane Black‘s disappointing 2018 installment The Predator. The original Predator premiered in 1987, but its prequel takes place way before Arnold Schwarzenegger battled the alien race. Prey stars Amber Midthunder as Naru, a member of the Comanche ...
While starring in yet another Hollywood post-apocalyptic film titled Finch, Tom Hanks takes on the role of an inventor who builds himself a robot best friend. Watch the newly released trailer below to see him in action. “It all happened so fast,” Hanks’ titular character somberly explains in the opening moments of the clip. “There was a solar flare. Goodbye crops and food, goodbye everything. So I hid, frightened and so alone.” Then, the camera pulls back and reveals Finch is talking to a canine companion in a manner not too dissimilar from Hanks’ conversations with Wilson, the volleyball in 2000’s Cast Away. The two survivors won’t be alone for too much longer, as the robotics engineer builds an android named Jeff (played by Caleb Landry Jones) to join them in fleeing an incoming storm. A...
According to producer John Davis, the ever-prolific Taika Waititi’s planned animated adaptation of Flash Gordon has grown into a full blown live-action film. “Taika is writing it. It was a movie that was a huge influence on him growing up. It is one of his favorite movies,” Davis told Collider in a new interview. “He initially said to me, ‘Let’s do it animated.’ Then we got into it and started developing it and he said, ‘No, let’s do it live-action.’ I said, ‘Even better.’” Back in 2019, Waititi was first hired by Disney to “crack” the long-gestating project, which was previously attached to directors like Matthew Vaughn and Julius Avery over the years. At the time, the Thor: Ragnarok filmmaker’s take was said to be more faithful to the original source material than the cam...

The movie was a hit, grossing over $210 million globally on a budget of just $30 million, winning praise for its found-footage storytelling and allegorical commentary on xenophobia and apartheid. However, Blomkamp has been unable to recreate the success since th...

This review was originally part of our coverage of the 2020 Beyond Film Festival. The Pitch: Paramedics Dennis (Jamie Dornan) and Steve (Anthony Mackie) work together in the same ambulance and are also longtime best friends. The Pitch: It’s 2049, and the Earth is plagued by a mysterious apocalyptic event – details are scarce, but it seems as though the world is in its last gasps, and time is running out. Perhaps the only man left on Earth is Augustine Lofthouse (George Clooney), an astronomer dying of cancer who chooses to stay behind while the rest of the personnel evacuate their observatory in the Arctic Circle. As he whiles away the days and weeks waiting for the world to end, two events force him into action: the arrival of a mute girl (seven-year-old newbie Caoilinn Springall) seemingly left behind in the evacuation, and the realization that a spaceship called the Aether is on its way back to the planet. They’ve spent the last few years scoping out a new planet for humanity called K-23, and are comin...
