However, Spurs appear to be leading the race for his signature. The north London club have already approached Schalke and have made contact about the availability of the striker. This has been a disastrous campaign for Schalke who find themselves at the bottom of the Bundesliga League table. After making his debut in November, he has been simply brilliant for the German club. Shambolic Schalke Still Slip Against Bremen

Schalke hosted relegation-threatened Bremen, with both sides desperately looking for a victory in the Bundesliga. Bremen dominated possession early on and they almost had 80% of the ball at a point. But then Schalke fought back, almost creating a chance. Their resistance was futile though, as Bittencourt planted a shot into the top corner from outside the box to put the visitors in front. Schalke were much improved in the second half, but failed to create a chance. So, the match ended 0-1 to Schalke. Tactics: Schalke started with a back 3, but it was more of a back 5 early as they were extremely defensive. Bremen looked to push their full-backs far forward in the first half. Things changed in the second half though, as it was all Schalke. After the substitutions, Bremen had totally parked ...

German Bundesliga restarts with ‘ghost’ derby

Borussia Dortmund host Schalke 04 in Germany’s fiercest derby on Saturday but no more than 300 people will be in and around the 80,000 capacity arena due to COVID-19 restrictions as the Bundesliga gets back to business after a two-month break. The Bundesliga is the first major sports league to resume since world sport was brought to a standstill by the pandemic, and players will have to abide by a strict set of health guidelines aimed at minimizing the risk of infection. Fans will not be able to attend the matches as part of the safety regulations, leaving it up to the players to provide the spark for what are being called “ghost” games. “It will most certainly be the most unusual derby in history,” Dortmund’s head of pro players Sebastian Kehl said this week. “This game lives off fans, th...
