If you looked at just one of the runway collections this past season, I’m sure you experienced the jaw-dropping experience that left everyone in the front row in a state of shock. The designs this year were just too good. Many of them showcased a long list of ways to take risks and wear something that will certainly turn heads. A lot of these trends may have been a bit intimidating to see walking down the runway. Even though I’m very experimental with my fashion choices, it would be a challenge for me to pull off some of these full runway looks. London Fashion Week hasn’t been its normal self for a long time now thanks to Covid 19, and this season’s schedule had to be reworked and partially cancelled due to The Queen’s passing. This led some brands, including Burberry and Raf Simons, to decide to cancel their shows altogether as a mark of respect, but the majority of the brands soldiered on, with many acknowledging the period of mourning with moving tributes. It’s been a long, long time since I last attended Copenhagen Fashion Week and during that period the city’s fashion landscape has changed immeasurably. As pared-back as their archetypal style might seem, the French are no strangers to surrealism. In fact, the artistic movement began in Paris back in 1917, and it has been woven into the fashion fabric of the city that couture calls home ever since. First came the provocative creations of Elsa Schiaparelli from the early 21st century. She embellished gowns with giant lobster illustrations and crafted hats that looked like upturned shoes. Throughout fashion month, industry insiders are constantly shown new collections and presentations, and while I do adore the glamour of seeing a model strut down the runway, more often than not, I find myself thinking about whether the clothes presented would actually work on me. Each season, as fashion month begins editors, influencers and general fashion enthusiasts are bombarded with new season styles. With four separate cities putting on events and several shows each day, there’s a veritable banquet of looks and designers to keep track of. And while newness is of course the name of the game, this season I found myself experiencing a recurring sense of déjà vu. Fashion month continues to truck on, and we’re still reveling in all the glorious newness. The fashion weeks in Copenhagen, New York, and London were jam-packed with exciting S/S 22 trends, and of course, Milan was no exception.
