15 Minute Live Performances: Rozzi

This week’s edition of 15 Minute Live Performances (watch previous Performances from UPSAHL, KANDLE and our favorite New Orleans-based collective Cha Wa) features one of our favorite rising artists: Rozzi. Earlier this year, Rozzi gave us a peek into her daily routine in our A Day in the Life of… feature, and it’s easy to see why she’s on the brink of big things. So far, her song “Orange Sky” was played on Simon Le Bon’s WHOOOSH! Podcast, her podcast Ugh! You’re So Good! is great in its own right, and she was a musical guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as well. She’s also a great writer too, read her odes to Beyoncé and Christine McVie as proof of that. Her new EP, Hymn For Tomorrow, is out on July 16, and if Rozzi’s new single “I Can’t Go To The Party” is...

Women’s History Month Tribute: Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie

When I was in 7th grade, Christine McVie was like a friend, probably because I had so few. It was one of those cruel middle school mysteries: I left 6th grade popular, the first girl in class to wear eyeliner, but when I returned from summer vacation, everything had changed. As I learned of loneliness, music took on a new role. My mother must have given me the CD—Rumours with a “u”—the spelling of it alone excited me. I used to play it every morning before school, while my cat Mr. Moon walked between my legs. A late bloomer, my hands were still childlike; I can see them in front of me now, red nail polish chipped at the edges, pulling the CD out of the sleeve and placing it in my parent’s old boombox. At first, I listened to Fleetwood Mac because no one else in my class did and, while I al...

Beyonce’s Humanity Is Her Greatest Strength

I told them it was in New Jersey. “Just a train ride away,” I said, which was a lie but, after spending an hour hitting “refresh” to get tickets, I couldn’t risk telling my friends where the concert really was. To be fair, Atlantic City is much farther from Manhattan than I thought. It wasn’t until I was buying bus tickets from the 15th stop, on the second train line, that I fully understood the journey we were embarking on. Or rather, the pilgrimage. It was the first night of her Revel Casino residency, May 2012. Our seats were ridiculous—the payoff of my hour-long wait on the Beyhive—we were close enough to see sweat. And then, we were put under a spell. Hypnotized by an artistic masterpiece, an athletic feat, and the aptest definition of a show there is. Before us, was our hero, who was...

A Day in the Life of…Rozzi

Get used to Rozzi being everywhere, because it’s already happening. Maybe you spotted her on the Political Platform NowThis. Or maybe you heard her moving single “Orange Skies” on Simon Le Bon’s WHOOOSH! Podcast. Or perhaps you’ve listened to her own podcast “Ugh! You’re So Good!”, which she co-hosts with Scott Hoying of Pentatonix. Since making her late-night television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2018, there’s a little bit of Rozzi where you go, and we’re all the better for it, as her smoky, soulful voice is dripping in her native California’s good vibes only.  Passionate about climate change awareness, a portion of the proceeds from “Orange Skies” went to The American Red Cross and the Bay Area’s Sonoma Family Meal. “I wrote ‘Orange Skies’ the last time my state was in flames. I...
