Techno and Electro House Intersect In No Mana’s Stunning Single, “Out of the Dark”

After signing to Monstercat just last month, Filipino electronic music star No Mana has returned with his second single on the label, “Out of the Dark.” The tech-driven track takes us through a mystical, underground odyssey backed by a thumping bassline and ominous, distorted sound design. According to a press release, the tune itself was conceptualized from what No Mana believes angels would sound like. “When I was scrambling for visual assets for this song on my Gravity set, I ran into my GIFs of a skull, chains and biblically accurate angels, to which I thought, ‘If this track had an affinity for something it would be these animations,'” No Mana said in a statement.  Take a listen to “Out of the Dark” below. WHIPPED CREAM’s New Single “CRY” to Appear On Rocket League, Paladins Video Games

For WHIPPED CREAM, it’s always been about bangers. “Light of Mine”? Banger. “So Thick”? Banger.  With a track record like this, it’s no surprise that her latest single, “CRY,” is also—well, you get it. A mind-bending fusion of midtempo, electronica and hyper-house, “CRY” is out now via Monstercat. Kicking off with eerie chords and haunting vocals, “CRY” quickly sets the scene for a tale that twists and turns with tension. “You won’t hear me cry,” its lyrics chant. An eerie bassline slowly creeps under the surface until the track’s cathartic drop, akin to a pitch black soundscape with menacing sound design. “It’s about having no tears, words, or energy left to give...

Text Message Interview: SMLE and Athena on Their New Collab Bursting Onto Rocket League

The release of Athena‘s debut single “Eternal” alongside Grammy-nominated duo SMLE marks another seminal moment for the connection between dance music and gaming.  One of the foremost streamers of Rocket League and a member of the prominent esports organization Team Envy, Athena described the situation as “unreal” in an exclusive EDM.com text message interview between herself and SMLE.  Athena recapped her experience previewing the new single for her fans on stream, and having her expectations blown away by the reaction. “They’re all freaking out going crazy,” she said. “Didn’t expect it at all.” The artists also react to seeing their post-apocalyptic, Mad Max-inspired makeovers in the new official music video for ...

Monstercat, one of the most celebrated labels in modern-day electronic music, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a bevy of special releases across different platforms. Earlier in the month they dropped a monster compilation featuring some of the brand’s biggest songs and artists of the decade.  As you may know, the label is no stranger to the video game world. They’ve been the soundtrack provider of the massive vehicular soccer video game Rocket League for quite some time now. In honor of this prolific partnership—and a decade of success—they’ve now debuted a special Monstercat 10 YR Fan Pack and free items for players to enjoy in-game. Anyone who logs in during the event will receive a free player banner and anthem. For those unfamiliar with the game, ...

Kaskade is Getting His Own Fortnite “Party Royale” Concert

Even before concerts were forced online due to the ongoing pandemic, Epic Games‘ flagship title, Fortnite, was hosting full-scale events. After a groundbreaking performance from Marshmello in 2019, they would go on to invite Travis Scott, J Balvin, BTS, deadmau5, and more to the virtual stage. Now, celebrating his recent crossover with Epic Games’ recently-acquired title, Rocket League, Kaskade is primed for an in-game performance. Seemingly due to the nature of the games themselves, the event will not actually take place in the Rocket League application, but rather in the world of Fortnite and the Houseparty app. However, this does not mean there won’t be tons of rocket-powered car soccer elements included. Organizers promise a show that wil...

Kaskade Delivers Rocket League-Inspired “Reset” EP: Listen

Kaskade‘s influence is one of the furthest-reaching in electronic music, as the prolific artist has continuously released high-caliber tracks that impress both fans and critics alike. His latest endeavor sees him delivering a series of off-the-rails singles via Monstercat Silk, in partnership with Rocket League. Today, those tunes have been packaged as an EP called Reset. Kaskade is the first artist to curate a release that coincides with Rocket League‘s ongoing second season. “While I felt a little pressure, it was mostly just an amazing time to pull together songs that could really go along with the various moods that we go through while immersed in a game,” he said in a press release. Reset captures the essence of Kaskade’s timeless sound while si...

Not for Noobs: Here are Kaskade’s Top 5 Gaming Tracks

After Monstercat‘s massive acquisition of Silk Music, the Monstercat Silk label is already off to a stellar start. Now, dance music megastar Kaskade is gearing up for his debut Monstercat Silk release, which is shaping up to be one of 2021’s best EPs. Kaskade’s Reset EP will be out tomorrow, March 5th, and will consist of four tracks that are also featured in the hit video game Rocket League‘s current season, which moonlights as an homage to electronic dance music.  The title of the EP, as well as its opening track, “Flip Reset,” is a clever nod to an in-game Rocket League movement mechanic that pros should be well-versed in. Reset will include the yet-to-be released “Miles To Go,” a collaboration with synth-pop star ...

Kaskade’s New EP Will Include His In-Game Music from Rocket League

It’s no secret that gaming and electronic music go together like wine and cheese. The two have lived in perfect harmony for decades. However, unlike cheese, the ingredients of this unique marriage never seem to spoil. In fact, like cheese’s boozy counterpart, it gets better with age. In the wake of ambitious, headline-grabbing EDM and gaming crossover ventures from the likes of Fortnite and Cyberpunk 2077, renowned electronic tastemaker Monstercat opted to go in a different direction. Teaming up with dance music vet Kaskade—who also seems to be becoming more fruitful with age after a dizzying flurry of new music in 2020—they joined forces with Psyonix’s flagship Rocket League game to produce a number of original songs for in-game play. Kaskade will now release a full EP o...

Kaskade Continues Monstercat and Rocket League Hot Streak With New Single “Closer”

Continuing his innovative hot streak with Monstercat and the popular vehicular soccer game Rocket League, Kaskade has returned with his new single “Closer.” The third release to arise from the partnership after “Flip Reset” and “Solid Ground,” this new tune comes with a celebratory launch. Starting today, Rocket League is taking over Fortnite’s “Radio Yonder” live across airways in-game, with none other than Kaskade himself as its host. “Closer” employs a melodic house beat, spellbinding synths, and hypnotic vocals for a dark and dreamy feel. The song is dynamic, moving from a house-heavy intro into an alluring buildup, then into the drop with ease. “Working on ‘Closer’ felt like coming home for me,” Kaskade explained. “There’s a lot to be said for the comfort of warm chords, v...

Rocket League Season 2 is a Tribute to Electronic Dance Music

For years, Rocket League has been one of the most EDM-friendly games out there. With the second season of their recently relaunched Rocket Pass program, they went full-throttle and based the four-month event on all things dance music. The electronic extravaganza comes just days after the release of Kaskade‘s Monstercat debut, “Flip Reset,” which serves as the theme song for the new season of Rocket League. On YouTube, a trailer for the new pass was shared. For those unfamiliar with the game, Rocket Pass is a program players can sign up for that gives them access to over 70 levels of unlockable content. While none of the content offers a competitive advantage to those who signed up, it provides cosmetic items otherwise unobtainable through regular gameplay.  Some of t...
