The Jaded Hearts Club, the new supergroup featuring members of Muse, Blur, and The Last Shadow Puppets, and Jet have announced their debut album. You’ve Always Been Here is due out October 2nd via Helium-3/BMG/Infectious Music, and is being previewed with a pair of cover songs in “We’ll Meet Again” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There”. Rock veterans Nic Cester (Jet), Graham Coxon (Blur), and Matt Bellamy (Muse) feature in the band, as do Miles Kane (The Last Shadow Puppets), Sean Payne (The Zutons), and guitarist Jamie Davis. While their first-ever single came out just this past March, The Jaded Hearts Club were actually informally formed back in 2017, when Davis was in search of a Beatles covers band for his birthday party. The available options were either too expensive or not up to par, so Dav...
While the world is tearing down monuments of problematic historical figures, the grooviest statue in music has just been erected. Prince’s iconic Love Symbol now stands proudly at Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota, home of the late singer’s studio and estate. A tribute to the late funk legend, the Love Symbol statue is 11 feet tall and 6 feet wide, and is decked out in Prince’s signature purple hue, as fans would expect. It’s positioned at the entrance to Paisley Park, where fans can take photos and pay their respects for free before paying admission to the compound. A plaque at the base of the statue features lyrics from the 1985 song “Paisley Park” and reads: “For love is the color/ This place imparts (Paisley Park)/ Admission is easy, just say you/ Believe and come to this/ Place in...
Bruce Hornsby is celebrating recent protests against racial inequality with “Bright Star Cast”, his new song featuring Jamila Woods. While this cross-generational collaboration may seem unexpected, both artists have long histories of addressing racism. The 65-year-old Hornsby has touched on prejudice several times throughout his career, including on his biggest radio hit, 1986’s “The Way It Is”. Then, too, there’s his decades-long relationship with Spike Lee, where he’s provided the musical backdrop to some of the most vital cinematic moments of the last 25 years. And as for the 30-year-old Woods, the fight against injustice is one of many plots that run through her two titanic albums, 2017’s HEAVN and the 2019 masterpiece, LEGACY! LEGACY!. “Bright Star Cast” is a rollicking funk-rock...
Because of the pandemic, Pearl Jam have been unable to take their excellent new album, Gigaton, out on the road. The band expects things to clear up by next year, at least in Europe, as they’ve just announced rescheduled dates abroad for Summer 2021. The schedule includes two new dates: a festival appearance at The Netherland’s Pinkpop Festival and a headlining show in Prague. Those two shows fit in nicely alongside previously announced plans to tour Amsterdam, Berlin, Budapest, and Frankfurt. The band also still plans to headline festivals including Rock Werchter in Belgium, Lollapalooza Stockholm, and Lollapalooza Paris. See Pearl Jam’s updated tour docket below. If you don’t already have tickets, you can get them here. Pearl Jam have yet to reschedule the North American tour dates suppo...
Joey Armstrong, the drummer of SWMRS and son of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, has been accused of sexual misconduct and other predatory behavior by The Regrettes’ Lydia Night. Night said she felt compelled to share her story about Armstrong after SWMRS “released an unbelievably hypocritical statement on social media.” She said, “The band’s delusional positioning of themselves as woke feminists is not only triggering for me as a victim, but is complete bullshit and needs to be called out.” In a detailed account posted to her Instagram, Night recounted her nearly two-year relationship with Armstrong that began when he was 22 and she was 16. She described herself as being the victim of “emotional abuse and sexual coercion by someone in a position of power over me.” “Because of our ...
Today would have been Chris Cornell’s 56th birthday, and his family is marking the occasion by sharing his previously unreleased cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Patience”. Listen below. In a message posted to Facebook, Cornell’s family said, “His birthday seemed the perfect time to share this and celebrate Chris, his voice, music, stories and art. It is true a man is not dead while his name is still spoken… and, through his art, an artist’s soul still burns just as bright as ever upon all those that look up to him and his memory. Releasing music that was special to Chris keeps a part of him here with us — his heart and his soul. His love and his legacy.” In related news, Cornell’s daughter, Toni, is following in her father’s footsteps. She recently released her first-ever solo single, “Far Away P...
While it may seem like small potatoes compared to all the other crimes he’s committed while in office, Donald Trump has proven himself to be a blatant abuser of artists’ copyrights. Whether on stage at a campaign rally or via a video decimated on Twitter, Trump and his gang of deplorables have routinely play songs against the wishes of the musicians who created them. The latter such example of this occurred on Saturday when Trump tweeted a fan-made campaign video soundtracked by Linkin Park’s “In the End”. As the late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington previously called Trump “a greater threat to the USA than terrorism,” the band’s surviving members were quick to file a takedown notice with Twitter. Within hours, Twitter obliged with the band’s request, pulling the video from Trump’s ...
SiriusXM has announced six new, limited-run artist channels. Starting today, July 15th, at 12 pm ET, you can moonwalk to Michael Jackson, fight for the right to Beastie Boys, rock yourself to Queen, pass the dutchie to Bob Marley, and politely nod to Coldplay songs 24 hours a day. As if these new channels weren’t enough, SiriusXM is bringing back its dedicated broadcast honoring the Purple One himself, Prince. In addition to studio discographies, each channel will be stocked full of live performances, interviews, track-by-track commentaries, and celebrity guest DJs. In particular, The Beastie Boys Channel features playlists from Talib Kweli, Rosie Perez, Michael Rappaport, and more, while the Michael Jackson Channel will be voiced by journalist and author Steven Ivory, who can presuma...
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have returned with “Honey”, their first new material since last summer’s Infest the Rats’ Nest. Nearly five minutes in length, the single leans on the more gentle, twangier side of psychedelia, as frontman Stu Mackenzie praises a special someone (“the magic potion”) that’s kept him afloat during these uncertain times. “You taste like honey/ All warm and runny/ Kinder than candy/ Effervescent shandy/ Days are ever sweeter when I wake up near ya,” he sings on the track, which isn’t to be confused with The Jesus and Mary Chain’s similarly titled saccharine alt-rock hit. Accompanying the song is a video directed and edited by John Angus Stewart. “Shot at sunset during the apocalypse with a reeeeeeal long lens,” Mackenzie noted on Twitter. “I wrote this s...
