Riz Ahmed and Steven Yeun Earn Historic Best Actor Nominations at Academy Awards
Two of the best film performances of 2020 were Riz Ahmed in Sound of Metal and Steven Yeun in Minari, and both actors were rightfully nominated for Best Actor at the upcoming Academy Awards because of such. However, in addition to the general excitement of Ahmed and Yeun getting those well-deserved nods, this also means they just made history as the first Muslim actor and first Asian American actor, respectively, to be nominated in the category. September is National Deaf Awareness Month, which makes it the perfect time to drop the first trailer for Sound of Metal. The movie stars Riz Ahmed as Ruben, a drummer whose entire identity is thrown into question when he loses his hearing. A recovering heroin addict, Ruben drums behind his girlfriend, Lou (Olivia Cooke) in a two-piece punk-metal act. The pair are enjoying life on the road in their Airstream until years of pounding the kit takes its toll on Ruben’s hearing. TIME named Nigerian physician Tunji Funsho to the 2020 TIME100, its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. New Movie Sound of Metal, Starring Riz Ahmed, Set to Hit Theaters and Prime Video
A new movie titled Sound of Metal is set to hit select theaters and Amazon Prime Video in the coming months. The fictional film stars Riz Ahmed as a punk-metal drummer who fears the end of his career. Ahmed, the Emmy-winning star of the acclaimed HBO series The Night Of, plays drummer Ruben, a recovering heroin addict who is losing his hearing. His girlfriend Lou (played by Olivia Cooke), who is also his bandmate, checks him into a sober living house for the deaf. From there, the drummer has to decide whether to adapt to his new situation or pursue his beloved music career.
