Steve Aoki and Afrojack‘s “No Beef” became a gateway to discovering dance music for a new generation of listeners. Now, 11 years following its release, Aoki is rekindling the magic through a fresh perspective. In 2011, the frenetic tune with vocals from Miss Palmer was an instant attention-grabber given the intersection of Aoki’s electro house characteristics and Afrojack’s influence within the stylistically adjacent Dutch house movement. Never one to tie himself to any given genre, Aoki didn’t hesitate to tweak the winning formula over a decade later. With his new remix, he shakes up the drum arrangement with the kicks, snares, and percussion more consistent with the tech house arrangements dominating the airwaves today. At heart, however, the new versi...

Riot Ten made the most of his quarantine, taking that time to develop his sophomore album, Hype Or Die: Homecoming. The new record, released on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records, showcases the producer’s trademark “Hype Or Die” sound and offers insight into his ability to take on explorative sonic ventures. The album features collabs with Bok Nero, Dogma, and more, tying together Riot Ten’s penchant for dubstep, riddim, trap, and house music. This blend of styles makes for a rollercoaster of a ride from start-to-finish. Born and raised in El Paso, TX, Riot Ten exploded into the world of dance music at the age of 22. He released music with Never Say Die and Bassrush, among other electronic music tastemakers, before joining the Dim Mak family in 2017. Recomm...
On June 18th electronic music superstar Excision touched down in Arizona for a massive show at Chandler’s Rawhide Event Center, where he was joined by fellow dubstep stars SVDDEN DEATH, Riot Ten, Boogie T, Kompany, Calcium, and Jessica Audiffred. Following the announcement of Lollapalooza‘s full lineup two weeks ago, organizers have released the daily schedule breakdown for the upcoming four-day event. As in prior years, electronic artists have nabbed two of the top headlining slots. This year ILLENIUM and Marshmello will fill those roles on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Meanwhile, fans of the festival’s dedicated electronic outfit, Perry’s Stage, will have no trouble staying busy. Thursday features notable sets from Kaytranada, Steve Aoki, and Tchami while Friday belongs to the bassheads, boasting performances from Wooli, Subtronics, Riot Ten, and more. Saturday finds a balance with Oliver Heldens, SLANDER, and Lost Kings dotting the lineup while Sunday holds some of the festival’s...
Lollapalooza is set to turn 30 this year in stunning fashion. It’s been a whirlwind of a week for the Chicago based festival. After a surprising report suggested the City of Chicago gave Lollapalooza the green light to host their 2021 edition “at near-to or full capacity” a mere three days ago, organizers C3 Presents have now dropped a massive lineup that appears to corroborate the news. As is typically the case, Lollapalooza’s bookings span the decades and defy a bias towards any particular genre, from Foo Fighters to Journey, and Miley Cyrus to Tyler The Creator. For dance music, Marshmello and ILLENIUM find themselves near the top of the bill with the trifecta of Alison Wonderland, SLANDER, and Steve Aoki a couple lines further down. In the heart of the...
When EDM.com Class of 2021 artist BLVK JVCK joined forces with dubstep heavyweight Riot Ten, it was obvious that something huge was in the making. While we were all trapped indoors, the duo swooped in to save the day with their $teve Cannon-assisted single “TIK TOK.” The rowdy track had fans turning their homes into mosh-pits back in October, and they’re now ready to do it all over again with the release of track’s official music video. In the fever dream of a video, we see Cannon surrounded by a bevy of video vixens as they get wild during a poker game. The trippy visuals are the perfect pairing for this hybrid hip-hop and bass behemoth. Check out the video in full below. FOLLOW BLVK JVCK: Facebook: facebook.com/BLVKJVCKTwitter: twitt...
Those who crushed an entire turkey dinner last night can attest that the next-day Thanksgiving hangover is very real. As we veg out on our couches with Harry Potter marathons playing on screens and tryptophan flowing through our veins, it’s difficult not to whip out the phone and do a little online shopping for Black Friday deals. There’s no shortage of Black Friday deals in the EDM world this year. As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, there’s no better time to learn a new skill, so those who want to take up DJing or music production should take advantage of the deals from the gear and tech side of the industry. Monster discounts are available on equipment from leading DJ manufacturer Pioneer DJ, products from renowned audio design company AIAIAI, and plugins...
BLVK JVCK, also known as the hoodstep legend, and Riot Ten are here to make your weekend a little more rowdy with their new single “TIK TOK” featuring $teve Cannon. This mosh-inducing track falls in line with the two producers’ modus operandi of holding nothing back in the studio. The aptly titled single also could not have come at a better time with the short-form video platform dominating the social media world (at least for now). “TIK TOK” features Cannon’s hard-hitting verses paired masterfully with the dark wobbles laid down by BLVK JVCK and Riot Ten. While it feels constructed for the destruction of live audiences, its thunderous hybrid of hip-hop and dubstep oozes the kind of depravity perfect for a hype song for all those trying to sta...
How much wiper fluid would it take to remove a splattered cake from a windshield? Barnstorming DJ, music producer, and cake-hurler Steve Aoki has announced his first-ever drive-in concert. Drive-in shows have become the new norm during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, so it’s no surprise that one of the most popular artists in dance music has thrown his hat into the vehicular rave ring. Aoki will be descending on the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Henry County, Georgia on November 13th, 2020, bringing dubstep don Riot Ten along for the metaphorical ride. While the show of course offers a one-of-a-kind concert experience, it also represents a good opportunity for target practice for Aoki, whose arm is probably rusty after so much time in quarantine. How far can he hurl a cake,...
Bass music fans rejoice, because the adrenaline-fueled “Pavement Rave” drive-in concert series is back with two more must-see events in Scranton, PA. “Pavement Rave” has been capitalizing on the drive-in rave craze with flying colors, throwing monster shows in the sprawling parking lot of Scranton’s Montage Mountain. Earlier in the month of September, they hosted Adventure Club, Wooli, PEEKABOO, TYNAN, and more in a pair of monumental concerts. The organizers of “Pavement Rave” are showing no signs of taking their feet off the pedal, so to speak, after announcing two more editions. The newest shows of the series feature yet another gaggle of some of the most promising DJs and producers in trap and bass music. Boogie T, Dirt Monkey, Chee, ...
While large-scale events and festivals are still on hiatus for the foreseeable future, memories are perhaps the most powerful things we have at the moment. Until we’re able to be reunited at a never-ending festival security line, EDM.com connected with some of the brightest in electronic music to share their favorite festival memories. Ranging from hilarious, wholesome, or just plain weird, we hope these wonderful moments from Apashe, Vanic, Buku, and many more bring a smile to your face. R3HAB “One of my favorite festival memories was in Las Vegas at EDC when 20 fans all made special flags for me. That was very special for me because it brought people together from all around the world.” Riot Ten “My most fond festival memory is probably more of an emotion than an a...
