Former Acting Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sam Obi, is dead. He died in the early hours of Saturday. Circumstances leading to his sudden was not known as at press time, but a dependable source confirmed that his body has been deposited in a mortuary in Asaba. The late Sam Obi represented the Ika North East State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly for three terms (2003-2015) and became Acting Governor in 2010 after Court nullified the 2007 election of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan and ordered a rerun. Myanmar military to hold new elections after one-year state of emergency
The Myanmar military said on Monday that it will rerun the multi-party general elections after a one-year state of emergency declared earlier in the day. The Union Election Commission will be reformed and the electoral process in the parliamentary elections held in November 2020 will be reviewed in accordance with the laws, the military said in a televised statement. “After the state of emergency period, free and fair multi-party general elections will be rerun and the state power will be handed over to an elected party which meets the democratic standards,’’ it said. The perennial constitution amendment exercise by the National Assembly is characterised by proposals that keep resurfacing despite gulping billions of naira yearly, an analysis has shown. The federal parliament had from the 5th to the current 9th National Assembly made several attempts to amend some provisions of the 1999 Constitution to no avail.
