Slayer Announce Reissues of Metal Blade Catalog, Including Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits

Slayer have announced new reissues of their Metal Blade Records catalog, including vinyl re-pressings of seminal albums such as Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits. They’re due out October 22nd. In addition to the aforementioned albums, the Haunting the Chapel EP and 1984’s Live Undead will also be reissued. Each release will be available in multiple vinyl colorways and on CD and cassette tape. Metal Blade was Slayer’s label home during the band’s early years and played a vital role in proliferating thrash and speed metal in the 1980s. Slayer would go on to sign with Def American and work with producer Rick Rubin for 1986’s groundbreaking Reign in Blood, but for many hardcore fans, the early material remains just as vital. GWAR Announce Lust in Space and Bloody Pit of Horror Vinyl Reissues

GWAR have announced vinyl reissues of their 2009 album Lust in Space and its follow-up, 2010’s Bloody Pit of Horror. Each will be available in two color variants on July 16th. The albums were previously only issued on CD and limited-edition picture disc vinyl. The latter quickly went out of print and now go for steep prices on the secondhand market. Although collectible, picture discs aren’t known for their fidelity — the manufacturing process inherently detracts from the sound quality — so these two albums are essentially receiving their first proper vinyl pressing. Lust in Space is available in a silver variant and a clear magenta-and-purple splatter edition, while Bloody Pit of Horror comes in a black-inside-red version and an orange-red-melt edition (as seen in the image abov...

Miguel Announces New EP Art Dealer Chic Vol. 4

Miguel has announced a new EP, Art Dealer Chic Vol. 4, out April 9th via ByStorm/RCA. News of the upcoming project accompanies the arrival of the first three volumes of Art Dealer Chic on streaming platforms for the first time since the EPs were first released in 2012. “I’ve been doing a lot of work to consider and refine my beliefs in the last few years,” the R&B singer said in a statement. “Inevitably, this brought me back to Art Dealer Chic as ADC is more or less an moniker for active mindset curation; choosing the thoughts, emotions, and actions that reflect my truest self instead of letting what I’ve experienced or what is expected of me dictate my choices.” He added, “As a basic operating system this mentality has made a profound impact on my life and I want to continue to share ...

The Weeknd Reissuing Debut Mixtape House of Balloons for 10th Anniversary

Although The Weeknd is now a superstar, the Toronto singer’s 2011 debut mixtape, House of Balloons, emerged in a shroud of mystery. To celebrate its 10th anniversary on March 21st, he is bringing the project to all streaming platforms in its original incarnation for the first time. The reissue will coincide with an exclusive merch drop including 1,000 limited-edition vinyl. When House of Balloons was first released, The Weeknd was thought to be a group consisting of Abel Tesfaye and producers Doc McKinney and Illangelo, rather than being Tesfaye’s moniker as a solo artist. The mixtape stood out for its eclectic samples from artists like Beach House, Aaliyah, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Cocteau Twins. Unlike many other mixtape reissues from the same era, The Weeknd was able to ...

Unsane Launching Their Own Record Label, Reissuing Back Catalog

Unsane’s early albums have been out of print for years and missing from digital platforms, but the band has taken things into its own hands to rectify the matter. Frontman Chris Spencer will launch the imprint Lamb Unlimited label Friday (October 9th) as a means of reissuing Unsane’s back catalog and associated side-projects like the Cutthroat 9s. Finally, early Unsane releases will be accessible in digital and streaming formats. Unsane’s 1991 self-titled debut and 1993 singles comp, Singles 89-92, were issued on Matador Records and became cult favorites for fans of noise rock and post-hardcore — with some grisly album covers to boot. It just seemed cruel that these albums remain vacant from streaming services in 2020, so Spencer created Lamb Unlimited to rescue the Unsane discography...

Boris have been archiving past releases on Bandcamp throughout the course of the year. Now, the Japanese metal band are unearthing high-res digital reissues of vein (2006), präparat (2013), and the 2018 live recording eternity, all of which will be available starting October 2nd. The reissues mark the first time the albums will be available in high-res 24-bit audio, which can be selected as a downloadable format when you purchase a release via Bandcamp. Back in August, Boris unearthed rare recordings as part of their six-volume Archive series, culling their many one-off experimental recordings into one intuitive anthology. The many sides of Boris are apparent on vein, präparat, and eternity. On the 2006 version of vein (it’s been recorded and released a few times by the band over the years...

Rammstein Announce 25th Anniversary Remastered Edition of Debut Album Herzeleid

Rammstein released their iconic debut album, Herzeleid, 25 years ago today. To commemorate the occasion, the band has announced a remastered anniversary edition, coming to digital platforms, CD, and vinyl on December 4th. The album, released September 25th, 1995, was previously remastered in 2015 and finally issued as a standalone vinyl LP in 2017. The new 180-gram double LP pressing features the 2020 remastered audio, which will be available in hi-fi 24-bit formats for the first time. A single CD version, housed in a lavish cross-shaped digipak with slipcase, will also be available. Original artwork creator Dirk Rudolph handled the anniversary edition, thankfully preserving the provocative band portrait shot by Praler. The new version has a more minimalist design, with the large flower re...

Geezer Butler’s Three Solo Albums to Get First-Ever Vinyl Release

Founding Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has announced the first-ever vinyl pressings of his three solo albums: Plastic Planet (1995), Black Science (1997), and Ohmwork (2005). They will also be reissued on CD and arrive October 30th. Plastic Planet was issued under the artist name g/z/r, while Black Science was originally credited to the single name Geezer. Ohmwork, meanwhile, was released under the moniker GZR. For the 2020 reissues and vinyl pressings, those monikers have been dropped, and each album is credited to Geezer Butler. The timeline of the solo records aligns with Butler’s stints outside Black Sabbath. Plastic Planet came after Butler departed the group following 1994’s Cross Purposes, though he would rejoin the band for various reunions beginning in 1997. In the meantime,...

Rush Share Permanent Waves 40th Anniversary Reissue: Stream

Rush have shared a 40th anniversary reissue of their classic 1980 album Permanent Waves. Stream it below with Apple Music or Spotify. Permanent Waves was a defining moment in the prog-rock era. Rush eased back from the epic song formats that had defined their first six albums, producing tight, radio-friendly cuts and an honest-to-goodness hit in “The Spirit of Radio”. But the essence of the band remained experimental, and in the shifting time signatures of “Jacob’s Ladder” and the multi-suite, nearly ten-minute closer “Natural Science”, they allowed their creativity to run wild. Fittingly for the band’s maximalist ethos, the new reissue has been given the name Super Deluxe. In addition to the original six tracks (re-mastered as part of the famous “Abbey Road Mastering Studios 2015” se...
