Jack Sherman, Former Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist, Dies at 64

Jack Sherman, who was the second guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has died at the age of 64. The band confirmed the news in a post on their Instagram account. “We of the RHCP family would like to wish Jack Sherman smooth sailing into the worlds beyond, for he has passed. Jack played on our debut album as well as our first tour of the USA. He was a unique dude and we thank him for all times good, bad and in between,” the statement read. Born on Jan. 18, 1956, Sherman played on the band’s self-titled debut album after replacing original guitarist Hillel Slovak. He only appeared on that album and the band’s first tour before being replaced by Slovak in 1985, though Sherman did write some of the material that ended up on the Chili Peppers’ second album, Freaky Styley. John Frusciante Says He Returned to Red Hot Chili Peppers to “Continue to Play Electronic Music”

Following his return to the group following an indefinite hiatus, fabled Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante is excited about the band’s prospects and its willingness to feature electronic influences. In a recent interview with Ele-King, Frusciante offered up some exciting news on the band’s forthcoming music, exulting in his reunion and asserting his intention to dabble in electronic music. “That’s right. I came back to the band because I knew that I could continue to play electronic music, and I have the leeway to get along,” he said. With a forthcoming album called MAYA on the horizon, which is named after his cat who passed away due to cancer last year, Frusciante is preparing to go full throttle in both rock and electro...

In the guise of Pluralone, his solo project, Klinghoffer was slated to open for Pearl Jam on the first leg of their Gigaton tour before that got pushed (though he did recently perform with them on “Dance of the Clairvoyants” on the All in WA special). He’s shared a few covers from quarantine, but now, he’s ready to unveil some new original music. Enlisting former Red Hot Chili Peppers bandmate Flea and ex-Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons, Klinghoffer has share...

In recent weeks, Lollapalooza has been sharing sets from its vast vault. Today’s is one that draws back on the fest’s rich alt-rock history Red Hot Chili Peppers’ set from 2006 was noteworthy not because it was their first Lollapalooza appearance in 16 years, but it was the beginning of the end of their second era with guitarist John Frusciante. As for the set itself, nearly half of the songs hailed from that year’s Stadium Arcadium with the rest featuring standards like “Can’t Stop,” “By the Way” and “Give It Away” and a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her.” The Chili Peppers’ next appearance at Lollapalooza would come in 2012 with Josh Klinghoffer on guitar. Frusciante returned to the Chili Peppers for a third time last December and made his first...
