Vinyl Just Had Its Best Sales Week in History

We already knew vinyl was making a tremendous comeback, but the format has downright shattered records this month. The most important of them all: vinyl just had its best sales week ever. As Billboard reports, there were 1.842 million (!) LP’s sold in the US during the week leading up to Christmas, ending on December 24th. That’s the biggest week the format has had since Nielsen/MRC Data began tracking sales information in 1991. The previous record was achieved just a week prior, when 1.445 million vinyl records were sold between December 10th and December 17th. These gargantuan figures arrive at the end of a year that’s been historically great for vinyl. For the first time in 34 years, LP sales outpaced CDs during four separate weeks in 2020 (all of them since September), w...

Hulu’s Palm Springs Had a Record-Breaking Opening Weekend

When was the last time you experienced pure, unbridled joy? It’s clearly been some time, and Hulu’s latest success story is proof. As IndieWire reports, Andy Samberg’s newest film Palm Springs has smashed the platform’s opening weekend streaming records, proving that we’re all quite desperate for the twin balms of romance and laughter. Palm Springs was directed by Max Barbakow and written by Andy Siara. Set in the titular idyllic California town, it stars Saturday Night Live alum Samberg and Cristin Milioti, who you may remember as the panicked crew member trapped aboard the USS Callister from Black Mirror’s fourth season. It’s an earnest, warmhearted take on the time-loop format; think Groundhog Day meets When Harry Met Sally, set against a hazy desert sky. Sure, we’d all love to be ...

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Renewed for Record-Breaking 15th Season

Over 14 season, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has embraced Frank Reynolds’ guiding principle: “I don’t know how many years on this Earth I got left. I’m gonna get real weird with it.” All that strangeness has paid off in record fashion, as FX has renewed the show for a 15th season, making it the longest-running live-action comedy series of all time. With last year’s Season 14, the gang tied ABC’s The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet for the title, but when Season 15 airs in 2021, they’ll officially make TV history. Such a lofty and seemingly unreachable feat sounds like it could easily be the plot for one of Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Dee and Frank’s ambitious adventures — except here they actually accomplished what they set out to do. Grab a rum ham and celebrate accordingly. Although ...
