Rap Song of the Week: YG and Lil Wayne Reunite on “Miss My Dawgs”

Rap Song of the Week breaks down all the hip-hop tracks you need to hear every Friday. Check out the full playlist here. This week, YG and Lil Wayne reunite on “Miss My Dawgs.” YG and Lil Wayne have been frequent collaborators over the past decade or so, first teaming up on the remix to YG’s breakout hit “My N****.” Earlier this week, YG acknowledged their close relationship by gifting his “favorite rapper” with a red 4Hunnid chain during the video shoot for their new collaboration, “Miss My Dawgs.” Featuring melancholy, piano-driven production by Gibbo and Ambezza, “Miss My Dawgs” serves as a tribute to YG’s late friend and rapper Slim 400, who was fatally shot one year ago today. The track’s title might be a nod toward Wayne’s 2004 track “I Miss My Dawgs,” too, as the rappers r...

When Your Favorite Artist Becomes a Nazi

For a nine-year period between 2004 and 2013, Kanye West was a visionary musical force, who amassed a catalog unrivaled by any of his peers. At the peak of his powers, West was one of the most creative, provocative, and influential artists to ever exist, whose records changed the sound of hip-hop. Now, he’s just a Nazi. On Thursday, December 1st, West joined alt-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on his InfoWars talk show. Over the course of a two-hour appearance, West proudly declared himself a Nazi, questioned the existence of the Holocaust, and praised Adolf Hitler for doing “good things.” He railed against “Zionists” as “evil,” and even pulled out a net and bottle of Yoo-hoo chocolate milk, which he claimed was longtime Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in an apparent attemp...

Rap Song of the Week: Latto and GloRilla Turn It Up on “FTCU”

Rap Song of the Week breaks down all the hip-hop tracks you need to hear every Friday. Check out the full playlist here. This week, Latto and GloRilla team up on “FTCU.” Few artists had a bigger rise in 2022 than Latto, who followed her first Top 5 hit, “Big Energy,” with her second studio album, 777, and a headlining tour. Memphis breakout GloRilla is experiencing an accelerated trajectory of her own, going from a viral hit (“F.N.F. (Let’s Go)”) to a Top 10 single (“Tomorrow 2”) to her first headlining trek next year. Both artists recently earned their first Grammy nominations, too. Now, the Southern rappers have teamed up to celebrate their success on “FTCU.” The club banger gets a stamp of approval from their forebear Gangsta Boo as producer d.a. got that dope flips ...

Elon Musk Suspends Kanye West from Twitter for Incitement of Violence

Kanye West’s antisemitism is a bridge too far, even for Elon Musk. In one of his first acts of censorship since assuming control of Twitter, the self-proclaimed “free speech absolutist” deleted a series of West’s tweets featuring a swastika and imposed a 12-hour suspension on West’s account. West reacted to the news by sharing a text message from Musk, in which the Twitter CEO wrote, “Sorry, but you have gone too far. This is not love.” West also posted a shirtless photo of Musk, which he declared to be “my final tweet.” Related Video Musk responded to West via his own Twitter account. “This is fine,” Musk tweeted in response to the shirtless photo. “This is not,” he added in response to West’s use of the swastika. Kanye West to Pay $200,000 a Month in Child Support as Part of Divorce Settlement with Kim Kardashian

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian finalized their divorce on Tuesday, with West agreeing to pay $200,000 a month in child support. TMZ reports that Kardashian and West will have “equal access” to their four children. In addition to child support, West is responsible for 50% of the children’s educational and security expenses. Given recent events, it is reasonable to wonder whether West can actually afford such a financial nut on a monthly basis. Due to his recent antisemitic behavior, West has lost over a billion dollars in net worth and lucrative brand partnerships with GAP, adidas, and Balenciaga. He’s also currently without a record contract, was dropped by his talent agency, and saw a string of planned concerts canceled. Kanye West Storms Off Podcast After Being Challenged Over Antisemitic Views

Kanye West walked off the set of a live podcast taping on Monday after being challenged over his antisemitic views. West and his posse of white nationalists, Milo Yiannopoulos and Nick Fuentes, appeared on Tim Pool’s Timcast podcast. Pool actually began the interview by asking West about his recent dinner with Donald Trump, but West immediately took the conversation in a different direction. “I just got to go to the heart of this antisemite claim,” West said as he launched into an incoherent rant in which he accused Gap, adidas, Vogue, former presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump, and even his personal trainer of participating in a Jewish-led conspiracy to end his career. Eminem Celebrates Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction: “I’m Probably Not Supposed to Be Here”

Eminem celebrated his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday by performing a six-song set that featured surprise appearances from Steven Tyler and Ed Sheeran. Marshall Mathers ran through hits like “My Name Is,” “Rap God,” “Forever,” and “Not Afraid.” He also teamed up with Aerosmith’s Tyler on “Sing for the Moment” and Sheeran on “Stan.” Eminem was introduced by his mentor, Dr. Dre, who spoke of the Detroit rapper’s “undeniable gift.” “His raw, dark, and humorous lyrics coupled with an impeccable cadence stood out from anything I had ever heard before, and he was hungry,” Dr. Dre said of Eminem. “Both of us were. We were two artists in do-or-die situations: he was desperate to find a way to feed his family and I was searching for something to sink my teeth into creative...
