Word’s been out for a while that Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington are set to star in David O. Russell’s unnamed next film, but now, we finally have some concrete details about the project, as well as a first look photo featuring the trio. The movie, called Amsterdam, hits theaters on November 4th. The first details about Amsterdam arrived at Disney’s CinemaCon presentation on Wednesday, so the official description of the film is naturally a little vague. Set in the 1930s, Amsterdam “is an original romantic crime epic about three close friends who find themselves at the center of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history.” In addition to the three close friends of Bale, Robbie, and Washington, the film’s stacked cast also includes Robert De ...
More details are unfurling about Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming World War II drama about the making of the atomic bomb. This week, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Benny Safdie have officially joined the cast of the biopic, which is set to hit theaters July 21st, 2023 through Universal Pictures. Oppenheimer tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who helped develop the atomic bomb during World War II. Pugh will play Jean Tatlock, a member of the Communist Party of the United States with whom Oppenheimer has an off-and-on affair. Safdie will play “father of the hydrogen bomb” Edward Teller, who was part of a research initiative called the Manhattan Project, which developed the first atomic bomb. Malek will play an as-yet-unnamed scientist. Pugh, Malek...
One of the notable sketches from this week’s Saturday Night Live saw host Rami Malek, his James Bond castmate Daniel Craig (appearing as a surprise guest), and SNL’s Kenan Thompson audition against one another for the lead role in a Prince biopic directed by Jordan Peele (played by Chris Redd). *** Spoiler*** In the sketch, Malek, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, nails the audition, but loses points for, uh — not being Black. But before Thompson has a chance to celebrate his landing of the role, 007 himself appears for a last-minute audition. He missed the memo about the biopic being about Prince (instead dressing as an actual prince), but nonetheless walks away with the role. “That was bad, but you’re James Bond so you got the part,” remarks Redd...
The Pitch: After James Bond (Daniel Craig) left MI6 after the events of Spectre, he attempts to leave his past — and that of his new paramour, Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux) — behind him. But the ghosts of SPECTRE and his foster brother-turned- supervillain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Christoph Waltz), remain, particularly once a gene-coded supervirus falls into the hands of a secretive villain (Rami Malek) who has his own ax to grind against the criminal organization. Reluctantly, Bond re-enters the world of spycraft and intrigue, now competing with MI6 and the new 007 (Lashana Lynch) to track down the virus and stave off global genocide — and close a few holes in his personal story along the way as well. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service: We’ve long known that No Time to Die would...
Saturday Night Live will return for its 47th season starting October 2nd, and the initial four hosts include a beloved SNL alum, an Academy Award winner, a Wedding Crasher, and a… Kardashian. Owen Wilson has been parodied on SNL plenty of times, but the Wedding Crashers and Loki star will finally get his chance to host on October 2nd. He’ll be followed on October 9th by Kim Kardashian West, professional famous person and “goth girl” mom. Then on October 9th, Oscar winner Rami Malek will probably get a chance to show off some of his moves from Bohemian Rhapsody, and October 16th will see the Emmy’s most Outstanding Actor, Jason Sudeikis, returning to the set that made him a star. Sudeikis’ return will be especially sweet. He was a regular cast member from 2005 to 2013, a...
One of the first movies Warner Bros. is using to smash release windows in 2021 is the Denzel Washington-starring The Little Things. Arriving in select theaters and HBO Max day-and-date on January 29th, the psychological thriller has today received its first trailer. Written and directed by John Lee Hancock (The Founder, The Blind Side), The Little Things finds Washington playing Joe “Deke” Deacon, a Kern County Deputy Sheriff with an impeccable track record yet no forward career momentum. While on an evidence-gathering assignment in Los Angeles, Sergeant Jim Baxter (Rami Malek) ropes him into a serial killer investigation. They both have their sights set on one particular man (Jared Leto), but their hunt for a murderer threatens to unearth some dark secrets from Deke’s past. The trailer ce...
