Hear PUP’s Cover of Grandaddy’s ‘A.M. 180′

On the heels of releasing their live record, Live at the Electric Ballroom, PUP have released a cover of one of their favorite songs — Grandaddy’s “A.M. 180,” off Grandaddy’s 1997 debut LP, Under the Western Freeway. “Grandaddy are one of the unsung hero bands of indie rock,” drummer Zack Mykula said in a statement. “A best-kept secret. I mean, forgive me for going ham, but this song is like a lily in an otherwise barren valley. An outstanding piece of songwriting, doing more with less than most any other song of the same caliber. So, that’s why we decided to cover it.” Listen to PUP’s cover of Grandaddy’s “A.M. 180″ below. Aside from the new cover drop, PUP have also announced their upcoming PUPTHEZINE Vol. 4 , QUARANZINE. 28 Musicians Predict the 2020 Baseball Season

Against all odds and the advice of many virologists, the 2020 MLB season is finally underway. Whether that’s a good idea in the midst of a pandemic is beside the point because it’s happening. Baseball is back, albeit in a much stranger fashion than anyone could have imagined when spring training began in February (which may as well have been 1923).  With a 60-game season looming and a bunch of bizarre rule changes in effect (universal DH, runner starting on second base in extra innings, expanded rosters, and more playoff teams), the season is set to be the most unpredictable in years. You know who else is stoked about the season finally starting? Musicians. There’s always been a romanticism between artists and baseball that makes perfect sense. Thus, we’ve summoned a panel of baseball...

PUP to Release Live at The Electric Ballroom for Charity

PUP have just announced that they will be releasing Live at The Electric Ballroom on Friday (July 3). “We never planned on putting these recordings out, because we expected them to suck,” the band said in a statement. “They were mostly just for ourselves, to mark what we considered to be a pretty big moment in our careers. But turns out, they suck a bit less than we expected. So in typical PUP fashion we made a plan to release them in a self-sabotaging, stupid way. The record will be sold for one day only. After that, it’s gone.” PUP continued, “Everyone we work with told us it’s a terrible idea. And they are definitely right. But one of the reasons we love working with them is because sometimes they agree to let us fuck up on our own terms, and rally behind us in a supportive way. Thanks ...

The 101 Best Albums of the 2010s

Why now? Because — and there’s no reason to ignore the elephant in the room: SPIN stewardship has changed hands many, many times since we made the online jump — we got our chance. Because plenty of our favorite albums of the last 10 years could still use a boost. Because some of the already unanimously beloved music on this list still merits further praise. Because we relish excuses to sound off on the music that’s affected us the most and to enlist some of our favorite writers to do so. Because the works of art below serve as a reminder that the 2010s weren’t all bad. Because lord knows we need the distraction. Because it’s fun. There’s a lot of music that isn’t on this list. Which, duh, but plenty of artists whose work defined the decade for many, many people, including many of us, ...
