Celebrating the release of his new album Every Loser, Iggy Pop was the latest musical guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The punk rock icon performed “Frenzy”, a highlight from the feature-heavy record. The set marked the late-night debut of Pop’s band The Losers featuring our 2022 Producer of the Year Andrew Watt as well as Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, Josh Klinghoffer, and Guns N’ Roses Duff McKagan. Watt shreds like he’s ready for the spotlight, while Klinghoffer, Smith, and McKagan demonstrated all the veteran stage presence you might have expected. With a new year upon us, King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp and his singer wife Toyah Willcox are still serving up their “Sunday Lunch” performances. In the latest edition of the popular YouTube series, the couple cover The Offspring’s “The Kids Aren’t Alright.” Fripp nails the anthemic guitar riff, as Toyah dances behind him, singing the song’s bleak lyrics and waving a wind-blown silk scarf around. Billy Idol received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday (January 6th). Fellow punk legend Henry Rollins and renowned visual artist Shepard Fairey delivered speeches to honor the legendary rocker. Iggy Pop Was Once Approached About Fronting AC/DC
Iggy Pop has revealed that he was once approached about becoming the frontman of AC/DC. “They had a manager many years ago, when I hadn’t re-formed The Stooges, I hadn’t moved to England,” Iggy told the New York Times. “And this guy said, ‘Are you interested in joining AC/DC?’ They were looking for a singer.” Though it’s not clear exactly when he was asked to join the band, the timeline likely puts the encounter around the time AC/DC formed in 1973 or perhaps when original frontman Dave Evans departed and when Bon Scott took over as lead singer — sometime around 1974. Several weeks prior to his death, it was announced that The Clash would be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2003. Musicians to Mark 20th Anniversary of Joe Strummer’s Passing by Busking in Front of NYC Mural
A bevy of musicians will honor Joe Strummer on the 20th anniversary of his passing this Thursday (December 22nd) by busking in front of a famous New York City mural of the legendary Clash singer-guitarist. Featured artists include members of D Generation and Gogol Bordello. The annual “Gates of the West” holiday benefit takes place 6-8 p.m. at the painted Strummer memorial on the side of the bar Niagara on 112 Avenue A. If there’s rain or snow (currently rain is in the forecast), the tribute will move to the stage inside Niagara. The Exploited’s Wattie Buchan Collapses Onstage After Suffering Suspected Heart Attack
The Exploited frontman Wattie Buchan collapsed onstage at a show on Saturday (December 10th) in Colombia and was rushed to the hospital after a suspected heart attack. As seen in the video clips below, the legendary Scottish punk singer, who’s 65 years old and has a history of heart problems, began clutching his chest and fell to his knees as the band played “Army Life.” According to a statement from the band, the singer had been trying to play through it before eventually collapsing. Original Misfits Cancel Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Show Due to “Personal Matter”
The Original Misfits have canceled their December 31st show at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas due to a “personal matter.” Circle Jerks and Tiger Army were set to open the high-profile gig, which would have been a perfect way to ring in the New Year for punk fans. Unfortunately, ticketholders will instead have to seek a refund (available from the point of purchase). The Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival has revealed its 2023 lineup, which will be headlined by Rancid, Bad Religion, and Dropkick Murphys. The 23rd edition of the annual punk-rock celebration is set for May 26th-29th on 6th Street in Las Vegas. The outing kicks off December 6th at Shaskeen in Manchester, New Hampshire, and runs for nearly two weeks before wrapping up on December 18th at Underground Arts in Philadelphia.
