Khruangbin and Vieux Farka Touré Announce New Album Ali, Share “Savanne”: Stream
Houston psych trio Khruangbin and Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré have announced their new collaborative album, Ali. The project is a tribute to Touré’s late father, Ali Farka Touré, and is due out on September 23rd via Dead Oceans. Ali will honor the desert blues pioneer with reinterpretations of highlights and B-sides from his catalog. Its release date has particular significance as well, occurring the day after Republic Day, a holiday commemorating the independence of the Republic of Mali from the Mali Federation on September 22nd, 1960. “I want this album to convey love. Blood Orange Remixes Tame Impala’s “Borderline”: Stream
Earlier this week, a pared-down Tame Impala lineup performed a club-ified version of “Borderline” on Fallon. Today, we get yet another iteration of the single off The Slow Rush, as Blood Orange has shared a “remix” of the song that’s more like an entire reimagining. Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes has slowed everything down, creating a mellow oscillation between a warm, tropical vibe and a hypnotic, psychedelic spiral. More than a true remix, this rendition of “Borderline” stretches over seven minutes long and features completely new instrumentation. Eric Moore, Drummer/Manager of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Leaves Band
Eric Moore, the drummer and manager of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, has left the band. In a social media post, he said that he “will keep working with Gizz putting out records but I will no longer be an active member or manager of the group.” While he didn’t give a reason, the band added that he plans “to focus solely on Flightless Records.” Moore was one of two drummers in the outfit, along with Michael Cavanagh. Moore founded Flightless in 2012 in Melbourne, Australia, shipping LPs in any old container, including pizza boxes. The label has since put out 18 releases by King Gizz, including their most recent effort Infest the Rats’ Nest, as well as albums by The Murlocs, Amyl and the Sniffers, and more.
