Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Travis Scott has joined a growing number of celebrities who have used their platforms to address the current state of race relations in America. The Houston star threw his support behind protestors enraged by the murder of George Floyd and other Black lives that were unfairly lost in a recent Instagram post, albeit later than most would have preferred. From Scott’s Instagram page: As I pace around thinking, trying to find something to ease the pain…there are almost no words that I can think of to properly express, or I can use to suppress, this enraged feeling of us continuously losing our brothers and sisters to brutality at the hands of officers, or anyone with misguided intentions for our well-being. The rage that we are feeling is from direct personal experie...
Source: Elijah Nouvelage / Getty A pair of students who attend Spelman College and Morehouse College respectively found themselves embroiled in an incident with Atlanta police in a potentially dangerous encounter. With the bodycam video displaying the officers’ tactics in handling the students, two of the officers were let go from their positions today. CBS 46 reports that Taniyah Pilgrim, who attends Spelman, and her friend Messiah Young of Morehouse were driving home from a protest after the city instituted a curfew this past Saturday. A reporter from the outlet recorded the moment where Atlanta police swarmed the vehicle Pilgrim and Young were riding in and smashed out the windows of the car, tased Young, and dragged both Pilgrim and Young out of the vehicle. Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Conway The Machine could easily rest until the rollout for his Shady Records debut album God Don’t Make Mistakes after dropping two potent projects this year alone. However, the Buffalo, N.Y. marksman isn’t content with keeping silent as America burns in rage and his new song salutes soldiers on the “Front Lines.” Produced by Griselda Records cohort Beat Butcha, “Front Lines” is a menacing track that typifies the grimy style employed by Conway and his brother Westside Gunn and their cousin Benny The Butcher. While the first verse is the usual tough talk from La Machina, the second verse is bone-chilling fare as Conway references the brutal murder of Houston native George Floyd in the streets of South Minneapolis. We would write out the lyrics but we want everyo...
Like thousands across America and even overseas, Fiona Apple took to the streets this past weekend to rail against racism and the murder of unarmed black man George Floyd. On Sunday, Apple figuratively fetched the bolt cutters during a protest in Santa Monica, as SPIN points out. The musician not only yelled out “Black Lives Matter!” alongside fellow demonstrators, but also held up a sign that read, “COPS: DON’T BE WHITE CHAUVINISTS ARREST THE OTHER THREE!!!”. The handwritten message refers to the three Minneapolis police officers also involved in Floyd’s death last week — Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane — who have yet to be arrested and charged. As of right now, only Derek Chauvin, the officer who held his knee down on the throat of a non-resisting Floyd for eight minutes, h...
Source: Carmen Mandato / Getty Colin Kaepernick has proven that he is in support of Black liberation by any means necessary, as evidenced by his activism that essentially cost him his NFL career. Continuing his stance against the injustices faced by Black people in America, the free-agent quarterback tweeted in support of the protests that have been sparked by the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. Thursday afternoon, Kaepernick took to Twitter and shared words of encouragement to the protesters gathered in Minneapolis and across the nation who are outraged at the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless other victims of murder fueled by racism. “When civility leads to death, revolting is the only logical reaction,” began Kap’s tweet. “The cries for pe...
Last year, Taylor Swift vowed to be more politically active, especially during the 2020 Election cycle. Keeping her promise, the pop megastar has just eviscerated Donald Trump in her very first public tweet to mention him by name. “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence?” she wrote on Twitter on Friday. “‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? “We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump” After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’???
