HipHopWired Featured Video Source: ImageCatcher News Service / Getty President Barack Obama continues to live his best life after his run leading the free world. The famed basketball fan has joined NBA Africa as a strategic partner with plans to engage Africa’s youth. On Tuesday, July 27, after several years of planning, the NBA announced that Obama was brought on board to “help advance the league’s social responsibility efforts across the continent.” This will be done via “programs and partnerships” that will be focused on creating more support for “gender equality and economic inclusion.” Sounds like a win to us. Four finalists compete for Time’s Person of the Year for 2020

Time Magazine names its Person of the Year for 2020 on Thursday, choosing the winner from nominees that include healthcare workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic, the racial justice movement and two U.S. presidential election winners. The Person of the Year is usually...

Joe Biden picks diverse team of top economic advisers

President-elect Joe Biden named former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen as his Treasury secretary nominee on Monday, and named three women to other top economic posts, setting the stage for a more diverse White House. While Biden’s transition to the presidency on Jan. 20 appeared to be hitting its stride, he himself was hobbling after fracturing his foot while playing with his dog on Saturday and will wear a protective boot for several weeks, his doctors said. The incoming administration has been hampered for weeks by Republican President Donald Trump, who has refused to concede to Biden, a Democrat. Trump has said without providing evidence that the Nov. 3 vote was fraudulent, claims that state and federal election officials have dismissed. Biden named leading members of an economic tea...

US sanctions Chinese, Russian firms over Iran dealings

The US on Friday announced economic sanctions on Chinese and Russian companies that Washington said had supported the development of Iran’s missile program. The four firms, accused of “transferring sensitive technology and items to Iran’s missile program,” will be subject to restrictions on US government aid and on their exports for two years, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement. The sanctions, imposed Wednesday, were against two Chinese-based companies, Chengdu Best New Materials and Zibo Elim Trade, as well as Russia-based Nilco Group and Joint Stock Company Elecon. “We will continue to work to impede Iran’s missile development efforts and use our sanctions authorities to spotlight the foreign suppliers, such as these entities in the PRC (China) and Russia, that provide mi...

Twitter says it has “no evidence” user passwords were accessed as part of yesterday’s massive attack targeting the company’s internal tools, but it is still working to restore access to locked accounts. The company made the decision to lock many accounts last night as a precaution to reduce further damage from the attacks, and it provided more detail about why accounts were locked in this afternoon’s tweets. “Out of an abundance of caution, and as part of our incident response yesterday to protect peo...

Petty Prez: President Trump May Block Unveiling Of Obama Presidential Portrait

Source: The Washington Post / Getty Political observers have long noted that President Donald Trump and his rise to power came on the heels of his freewheeling and often contentious stances against his political opposition. In recent weeks, the divide has grown as chatter is brewing that Trump may elect not to unveil his predecessor President Barack Obama‘s presidential portrait, which would disrupt a decades-log tradition. A report from NBC News highlights the potential for Trump to bypass the ceremonial display of the portrait inside the White House, an act Obama himself partook of when unveiling his predecessor President George W. Bush’s portrait. However, Trump has made it clear that he is no friend of Obama or his past policies, and has adopted stances from conservative pundits and gr...

Source: WENN.com / WENN President Donald Trump has spent a portion of his presidency seemingly intent on discrediting the legacy of President Barack Obama while adopting debunked theories crafted to tear down his predecessor. This past weekend, the former business mogul and reality television star took aim at Obama during an especially intense tweetstorm accusing his predecessor over a so-called criminal act framed as “Obamagate.” To bring things into focus as best we can, Last Friday (May 9) Yahoo! News exclusively obtained a leaked private web call Obama held with members of the Obama Alumni Association. In the call, Obama said, “The news over the last 24 hours I think has been somewhat downplayed — about the Justice Department dropping charges against Michael Flynn.” He added, “And the ...
