Godspeed! You Black Emperor Officially Release “Lost” 1994 Debut Album: Stream

A good Valentine’s Day gift should be something rare and personal, so consider this the greatest V-Day present ever: Godspeed! You Black Emperor have finally reissued their “lost” debut album, All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling. For years, 1994’s All Lights Fucked on the Hairy Amp Drooling was something akin to a myth. The effort was created almost entirely by Efrim Menuck under the name God Speed You Black Emperor! (note the different spelling and punctuation). According to the band, only 33 copies of the album existed on cassette, and even almost 30 years later, no confirmed tapes have turned up. Apparent leaks appeared online in 2013 and again earlier this month, but now GS!YBE has given the record an official release. Advertisement Related Video Shared via Bandcamp, ALFot...

Black Country, New Road Release Sophomore Album Ants From Up There: Stream

Black Country, New Road have released their second album Ants From Up There less than a week after frontman Isaac Wood announced his amicable departure from the band. Stream it below. The founding member and lead singer cited mental health struggles in the opening of the band’s full official statement, shared via their social accounts on January 31st. “I have been feeling sad and afraid too…it is the kind of sad and afraid feeling that makes it hard to play guitar and sing at the same time,” Wood wrote. “To be clear: this is completely in spite of six of the greatest people I know, who were and are wonderful in a sparkling way.” Advertisement Related Video The UK rock collective march forward on their last set as a seven-piece by deepening their sonic arsenal and extending their ...

Cult of Luna Detail New Album, Unveil Lead Single “Cold Burn”: Stream

Cult of Luna have detailed their new album, The Long Road North, arriving February 11th via Metal Blade. The Swedish band also shared the video for the lead single “Cold Burn.” The new album follows Cult of Luna’s 2021 EP The Raging River, which continued the band’s prolific streak of post-metal offerings. “Cold Burn” sees the band unleashing more torrential atmospheric sludge — tones dense and immersive enough to keep us warm for the winter months to come. “It’s a big and cinematic sounding album,” said Cult of Luna singer-guitarist Johannes Persson in the press announcement. “I think one of the reasons why we have been able to be so productive the last couple of years is that we have been consistently writing from the heart. We have let our instincts guide us, and I think it’s getting cl...

Black Country, New Road Share Origins of New Song “Concorde”: Exclusive

In the new music feature Origins, artists get a chance to connect directly with listeners by revealing the inspirations behind their latest songs. Today, Black Country, New Road discuss their latest single, “Concorde.” Black Country, New Road dropped one of the finest debuts of the year back in February with For the first time. Almost a year to the day later, they’ll drop their follow-up, Ants From Up There, on February 4th, 2022. Today sees the British experimental septet sharing a new taste of the LP with the single “Concorde.” The track begins as something as a pleasant country ramble, but as with anything BCNR does, where we start is not necessarily where we end up. By the midpoint of the six-minute cut, notes of Beirut or Typhoon come through in the tightly plucked strings and floatin...

Godspeed You! Black Emperor Charge Forward into the Unknown on G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END: Review

<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-07T16:31:02+00:00“>April 7, 2021 | 12:31pm ET Editor’s Note: Our review looks at the physical version of this release, which consists of four total tracks — two long, two shorter. On many streaming services, the longer tracks have been broken down into a total of eight tracks. The actual music remains the same. The Lowdown: Godspeed You! Black Emperor have always played at being impenetrable. The Montreal post-rock cooperative give their albums and songs difficult, often poetic names (Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress, “[…+The Buildings They Are Sleeping Now]”), and the group would much rather hide in the shadows of large, projected images at their live shows than drink in the sp...

Godspeed You! Black Emperor Release New Album G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END!: Stream

Canadian post-rock outfit Godspeed You! Black Emperor return today with their new album G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END!. Stream it below via Bandcamp. Whereas the band’s previous album, 2017’s Luciferian Towers, went without ambient interludes in favor of softer climaxes, this follow-up effort sees GY!BE turning crackling analog sounds into inescapable thunderstorms. The album is fixated on unease, anxiety, paranoia, and the long space of time that occurs when you’re waiting for what’s next — ideally something better — in life. “this record is about all of us waiting for the end,” the band wrote in a statement. “all current forms of governance are failed. this record is about all of us waiting for the beginning, and is informed by the following demands= empty the prisons take power fro...

The quintet will release their self-titled debut album on April 30th via member Ryan Graveface’s Graveface Records. As shared on Bandcamp, Slowdive’s Christian Savill started writing and recording demo songs back in 2019 before sending out the musical sketches to Graveface (Dreamend / The Casket Girls) and The Soft Cavalry’s Steve Clarke. Graveface and Savill then recorded the barebones structure of the tracks in Savannah, just two weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. After Flaming Lips drummer Matt Duckworth added his contributions, Clarke was able to add harmonies and other ...

Sigur Rós Launch Line of CBD Tinctures

Sigur Rós have announced their very own line of CBD tinctures in partnership with VONA. The Icelandic art rockers’ CBD extracts come in two strains called SLEEP and WAKE. The names are pretty self-explanatory: SLEEP is meant to help you “drift off into the ethereal,” while WAKE will “help you start your day feeling alive.” Each bottle contains 1000mg of the full-spectrum 100% organic, gluten- and vegan-friendly CBD derived from hemp. SLEEP apparently tastes like “spiced rose and lemon”, while WAKE is “fresh citrus pine” flavored. Bottles of the first batch of Sigur Rós’ CBD tinctures are retailing at $58 each, and you can get them via VONA. They’re currently only shipping to addresses in the US. This actually isn’t the first time Sigur Rós have entered the CBD market. In 2017, they teamed ...
