Demi Lovato has updated their pronouns to include she/her as well as they/them. The singer, who came out as nonbinary last year, told Spout Podcast, “Recently, I’ve been feeling more feminine, and so I’ve adopted ‘she/her’ again, but I think what’s important is, nobody’s perfect. Everyone messes up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning, it’s just all about respect.” Explaining why they first came to identify with they/them pronouns, Lovato said, “I felt like, especially last year, my energy was balanced in my masculine and feminine energy. So that when I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said ‘Women’ and ‘Men,’ I didn’t feel like there was a bathroom for me. Because I didn’t feel necessarily like a woman, I didn’t feel like man, I ju...

Machine Gun Kelly sold out Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night and had quite the, well, bloody time celebrating at the afterparty. In a video shared to the pink-haired artist’s Instagram, he’s seen giving a speech to a crowded room before suddenly saying, “Bro, I don’t give a sh–” and shattering an empty champagne glass directly on his face. “And this is when things turned…” he captioned the disturbing clip, while in the next Story he performs his hit single “My Ex’s Best Friend” with blood running down his face, singing, “You know my ex, so that makes it all feel complicated, yeah/ I read those texts that you sent to yours/ But I’ll never say it, yeah” as people in the crowd try to hand him towels to stop the bleeding. Elsewhere during the party, Kelly hit the stage with Avril Lavigne ...
Avril Lavigne sat down for a new radio interview to talk about touring with Machine Gun Kelly and more, and she ended up revealing the one song she wishes she had in her own catalog. “If there’s a song I wish I wrote, it’s ‘Bitch’ by Meredith Brooks,” the Canadian superstar told Mix 104.1’s Gregg, Freddy, & Danielle on a stop in Boston after playing Boston Calling. The “Love It When You Hate Me” singer also noted that while she’s never covered the 1997 hit, she’s definitely eager to. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news Brooks’ irreverent song spent four weeks atop the Pop Airplay chart — despite some DJs not even being able to say the title on air, as Gary Trust noted — and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, stuck behind Puf...
Avril Lavigne released a new cover of Adele’s “Hello” on Friday, June 24th. The track comes courtesy of the singer’s new Spotify Singles session. On her version, Lavigne stays true to the spirit of Adele’s bombastic 2015 original, singing with regret and longing over a melancholy piano line. “Hello from the other side,” she wails with extra pain in her voice. “I must’ve called a thousand times/ To tell you I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done.” Meanwhile, she also recorded a new, acoustic rendition of “Love Sux,” the title track off her most recent studio set, which was released back in February and also includes the hit singles “Bite Me” and “Love It When You Hate Me” featuring Blackbear. THICK have announced their second album Happy Now. It arrives August 19th via Epitaph Records, and the Brooklyn trio have also released the LP’s first single, “Loser,” as well as dates to their upcoming fall headlining tour. The album was recorded at Studio G in Brooklyn and produced by Joel Hamilton, who worked with the trio of guitarist Nikki Sisti, bassist Kate Black, and drummer Shari Page on their 2020 debut 5 Years Behind. While Sisti refers to Happy Now as a “living diary,” the band isn’t too preoccupied in wistful hindsight, as suggested by song titles like “I Wish 2016 Never Happened.” Instead our former Artist of the Month are looking back to find the means to move forward. In a statement, Sisti shared, “Most of our songs lean toward optimism, even when there’s a lot of pain...

Editor’s Note: Check out our complete coverage of Nine Inch Nails’ Friday night headlining set here, and see a photo gallery from all three days of Boston Calling 2022 here. Is the 2022 festival season cursed? With many events coming back for the first time in three years, there’s a rash of bad luck running through the landscape. From bad weather to artist cancellations to simply mediocre lineups, few events have been immune to misfortune in the early days of summer. Boston Calling was perhaps hit harder than most — by no fault of its own, mind you. If there’s one thing the annual Memorial Day Weekend event could have done to avoid being caught in this whirlwind of crappy luck it would be not announcing headliners a year in advance. Even without a pandemic, situations change, something fes...
Despite looking nothing like the festival that was first announced back in May 2021 — or even what was detailed in January of this year — Boston Calling 2022 did indeed happen, and we have the photos to prove it. Unfortunate circumstances, positive COVID tests, and severe weather warnings meant a number of artists on the original lineup never took the stage. It also meant that Nine Inch Nails performed a rare double-header, topping both Friday and Saturday night. So the festival may not have been exactly what fans were expecting when they first bought tickets, but if you were able to look past all the unavoidable misfortunes, there was still more than enough to make for a successful Memorial Day Weekend event. With performances from Metallica, Run the Jewels, HAIM, Avril Lavigne, Weezer, M...

For our favorite new songs from emerging artists, check out our Spotify New Sounds playlist. This week, My Chemical Romance return. My Chemical Romance have re-entered the chat: after eight years and a lengthy hiatus, the emo icons are finally back with a new song, the brooding and blistering “The Foundations of Decay.” Their last album, 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, marked a maximalist combination of some of their most accessible material with a dystopian storyline, and it would have been easy for MCR to return to their positions as pop rock extraordinaires. (This is a band that ha...
