It might feel like there won’t be a lot worth celebrating this Independence Day, but Hannibal Buress will at least be here to make us laugh. The comedian has announced a new special called Miami Nights, which will stream for free on YouTube on July 3rd. The special will touch on Buress’ 2017 arrest for disorderly intoxication in Miami after he tried to ask a police officer to call him an Uber. Bodycam footage of the incident shows Buress insulting the officer in a joking manner, only to find himself in handcuffs with no explanations of charges and no Miranda warnings. The comedian was able to get the charges dropped under the First Amendment a few months later. Buress has often joked about the arrest on stage, and given the current climate of the country, there’s probably no better ti...
Keeping safe and healthy doesn’t mean you can’t show your true colors. Whether an ally or member of the LGBTQ+ community, celebrate Pride and the power of authenticity with our new rainbow face masks. “When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free,” former president Barack Obama said in 2013, shortly after the Supreme Court ruled in support of gay marriage. That’s the spirit of Pride month. Available now in packs of two, four, and six, “The Pride Mask” is the newest design available as part of our capsule of specialty designed face masks. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, which protects and defends the rights of Black transgender people. The mask is reusable and washable, made in the USA from recycla...
The annual San Diego Comic-Con was called off back in April due to the worldwide pandemic shutdowns. In May, Comic-Con International announced a virtual iteration dubbed Comic-Con@Home. Now, details of the online event have been revealed — and it will be completely free. Taking place July 22nd through 26th, Comic-Con@Home will allow an unlimited number of online guests attend the virtual panels on movies, TV series, comic books, video games, and more, without paying a fee. That’s huge news for fans of geek culture; SDCC’s ticketing process is notoriously stressful, involving pre-sign up, waiting periods, and limited accessibility. Then once you’re actually onsite, getting into the major panels could require waiting in line for hours. With no need to camp out to secure a spot, fans will hav...
Hard times for Tiger King’s Joe Exotic. In a letter obtained by TMZ, dated June 1st, and addressed to “supporters, fans, and loved ones,” the imprisoned Netflix celebrity paints a pretty bleak portrait for himself. In fact, he predicts, “I’ll be dead in two to three months.” Before that, though, Exotic thanks everyone for their support, erroneously claiming the pandemic is over, and pleading for that sweet presidential pardon, writing: “I ask President Trump to keep his word and look into making this wrong a right and grant me a miracle.” It’s perhaps at this point that Exotic realizes everyone’s moved on from Tiger King mania because things take a dark turn. “My soul is dead,” he writes, “I struggle every day to hold on to what little hope I can find.” Reason being, he has no outside...
Let’s get one thing right: All the Kardashian-Jenners are filthy rich, having perfected the art of gaining wealth for being famous and attractive. But according to a new report by Forbes, Kylie Jenner isn’t quite as loaded as she led people to believe. After investigating the January sale of Kylie Cosmetics to Coty, Forbes has stripped Jenner of her billionaire status, claiming she lied about her financials. In March of last year, Forbes officially proclaimed Kylie Jenner the youngest self-made billionaire ever. However, the publication now says they believe Jenner faked tax returns to demonstrate she was worth more than she actually was. (Note that there’s no claim she filed false taxes, just that she showed reporters doctored documents.) Add in the dip some of her beauty company sto...
Remember places and the outside? As the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic winds down, quarantine measures are slowly being lifted throughout the world, and people are eager to do things like go to concerts and amusement parks — masks on, of course, because safety still comes first. In Japan, amusement park officials have released guidelines for those looking to get their adrenaline fix on, though they might be a lot tougher to follow than one would expect: Employees are urging visitors to not scream on the country’s famed roller coasters. Per recommendations for mitigating the spread of COVID-19, theme park operators are asking guests to “refrain from vocalizing loudly” on roller coasters and other assorted thrill rides, reports the Japan Times. Other park safety measures include six ...
When you become a famous pop star, you essentially give a part of yourself to your fans. It’s the nature of the game, especially in 2020, when selling your brand/identity is as profitable as selling your actual art. Grimes has taken this to its most literal extreme with her newest art project, which sees her literally selling a piece of her soul to the highest bidder. Entitled Selling Out, the work is the title piece of Grimes’ first online fine art exhibition. Presented jointly by Gallery Platform Los Angeles (May 28th through June 3rd) and Maccarone Los Angeles (May 28th through August 31st), the show collects numerous drawings, digital prints, photographs, and more that Grimes has created over the last decade. “I see myself as a visual artist first and foremost,” Grimes told Bloomb...
Earlier this month, Grimes and Elon Musk welcomed a healthy baby boy, and they promptly set him up for years of therapy by naming him X Æ A-12. Now, without much explanation, the child has undergone a rebranding: X Æ A-Xii. There, that clears things up, doesn’t it? Via The Guardian, there’s been speculation that the child’s original name violated California law, which stipulates that only the 26 letters of the alphabet can be used. The new appellation would seem to fit the rule of law, swapping as it does a 12 for an Xii. Neither Musk nor Grimes has confirmed this as the reason, though in responding to an Instagram comment about the CA mandate, Grimes wrote, “Roman numerals. Looks better tbh.” Using the roman numerals for 12 instead of the modern English symbols won’t change...
