In response, military veterans say they will be staging a sit-in protest. To illustrate the political divisiveness at the congressional level, the PACT Act passed at a clip of 342-88 in the House and 84-14 in the Senate. When the House returned and passed a version of the PACT Act that added 23 toxic and burn pit exposure conditions to the Veteran Affairs database, GOP senators are apparently uncomfortable with the changes. In addition, protections were extended to first responders who suffered from exposure during the 9/11 attacks....

Jon Stewart Rips GOP for Blocking Veterans’ Health Bill: “Fuck the Republican Caucus”

Jon Stewart has slammed Senate Republicans after they blocked a bi-partisan bill expanding healthcare to military veterans exposed to toxic burn pits called the PACT Act. The former Daily Show host first ripped into the GOP senators on Wednesday, July 27th with a series of tweets calling out Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), who urged colleagues to vote against the bill because of its allocation of discretionary funds. “Congratulations Senator Toomey. You successfully used the Byzantine Senate rules to keep sick veterans suffering!!!” Stewart wrote. “6 trillion for war- No guidelines or oversight…but for Veterans Healthcare?? Let’s play budget gimmick games. We live in the upside down.” Advertisement Related Video Later on, he added, “Fuck the [Republican] caucus and their empty promise to our veter...

Barack Obama Shares 2022 Summer Playlist

Can you imagine Barack Obama blaring Rosalía’s “SAOKO” as he speeds around Martha’s Vinyard on his crutch rocket, or enjoying a stiff drink as Harry Styles’ “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” plays in the background? Maybe you saw him in the pit getting down to Wet Leg’s “Angelica,” or talking up Kendrick Lamar’s “Die Hard” while in line for a coffee? It’s more realistic than you think, as the former president has shared his 2022 Summer playlist. “Every year, I get excited to share my summer playlist because I learn about so many new artists from your replies—it’s an example of how music really can bring us all together,” Obama wrote in a post accompanying this year’s summer playlist. “Here’s what I’ve been listening to this summer. What songs would you add?” In addition to the aforementioned...

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Town of Kenly / Town of Kenly Was the new boss really that bad? An entire North Carolina police department handed in their resignations, citing a “hostile environment” after a new town manager was hired. It just so happens that the new town manager is a Black woman. The town has two weeks to lock in another police force. Kenly Police Chief Josh Gibson made the announcement via Facebook on Thursday July 20. “The new manager has created an environment I do not feel we can perform our duties and services to the community,” wrote Gibson about new town manager Justine Jones. WRAL reports that Gibson and his full time officers resigned, leaving three part-time officers in Kenly PD to serve about 2000 people. Reportedly, nearby Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizz...

Joe Rogan Blasts “Homophobic” Republicans: “I’m a Bleeding Heart Liberal”

Joe Rogan is not happy about being associated with the conservative brand, as he explained on the July 23rd episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, going on a tirade about “homophobic” Republicans and adding, “I’m a bleeding heart liberal when it comes to a lot of shit.” To be fair, Rogan has always been more about vibes than policy. He endorsed Bernie Sanders for 2020, saying, “I’m a Bernie Sanders supporter. I’m a Tulsi Gabbard supporter,” somehow simultaneously admiring perhaps the most liberal and most conservative Dems. When Sanders dropped out, Rogan said that he’d “rather vote for Trump than Biden,” though he later admitted that he didn’t vote for either. Now, he’s increasingly uneasy about a Republican party that has undergone a violent rightward shift. It goes beyond overtu...

California again allows crypto contributions to state, local political campaigns

Candidates for state and local offices in California will once again be allowed to accept donations in cryptocurrency after a ban was lifted by the state’s Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) on Thursday. The ban was imposed in 2018. California was one of nine states that had banned political contributions in crypto due to perceived transparency and Know Your Customer (KYC) issues. The question of contributions in crypto was revived in March when the commission issued an opinion on the sale of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) for campaign fundraising. In May, a report was prepared by the FPPC that examined three options for its crypto policy. Those were to maintain the ban or treat crypto like cash, with a $100 contribution cap, as is done in several states. The third option was to t...
