Edo State Governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, deceived the 12 members-elect of the state’s Assembly who refused to present themselves for inauguration and two others whose seats were declared vacant, denying their constituents representation. The governor said this in Adolor Ward 4, Ekiadolor, Ovia North East Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, during his reelection campaign rally. Obaseki said the affected members-elect in their selfish pursuits and obedience to their godfather, Oshiomhole, betrayed the confidence reposed in them by their constituents after the house was proclaimed on June 17, 2019. “The godfather is very deceptive; he de...
File Photo Mr Bitrus Kaze, Plateau State Chairmanship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed surprise at what he called “the sudden decision of the party” to hold the state elective congress on Aug. 29. Newsmen report that the party’s acting spokesperson, Mr John Akans, had on Tuesday announced that the elective congress would hold on Saturday. But Kaze in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Jos described the decision as hasty, considering what called the numerous unresolved issues in the party, including the fact that “the state has taken a decision that the caretaker is not fit to be in office much less conduct a state congress.” He also cited the court cases and petitions by party members, “yet we saw a communication from Akan that a date for the election h...
Poised over the piano, Carole King was set to play “I Feel the Earth Move” during a recent virtual fundraiser for Joe Biden when the Democratic presidential nominee himself beat her to it. “On my playlist, Carole!” Biden proclaimed, holding up his phone and letting a few seconds of the song blast. “Oh, well, I’ll just sit back and let you play your playlist,” King said with a laugh. The four-time Grammy winner isn’t the only Biden playlist mainstay helping his campaign against President Donald Trump. Jimmy Buffett noted that “Come Monday” was among the hits stored on Biden’s phone before singing it at another recent fundraiser. And James Taylor told another group that he learned to play “America the Beautiful” for President Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration, when Biden was sworn in for four...
Day two of the Republican National Convention is now done and dusted, but millions of onlookers are continuing the conversation online. Speakers included Mike Pompeo, Eric and Tiffany Trump, all of whom made their pitch for why Donald Trump should remain in the White House. But it was the final act that remains the hottest talking point, a rare speech from Melania Trump, from the Rose Garden. Various computations of the night’s headline speaker trended on Twitter, including “Did Melania” and “Melanie,” as armchair critics scrutinized the First Lady’s language, her outfit, her gardening skills and just about everything in between. Bette Midler kept her followers entertained with a tweet storm throughout the broadcast. Check out some of her comments below. #Eric didn’t seem like he was...
Chairman of Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council, Chief Dan Orbih, has urged voters in the state not to be deceived by the litany of lies and propaganda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu ahead of the September 19, 2020, gubernatorial election, saying that the APC candidate’s ‘Simple Agenda’ manifesto can’t solve the huge problems created by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole. Orbih who spoke to the party’s faithful in wards 3, 4, 7 and 10, in Esan West Local Government Area of the state weekend, said the forthcoming election was not just about Obaseki but the future, progress and development of Edo State. He appealed to the people to cast their votes en-masse for Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, to fu...
Last week, the Democrats held their convention and had Twitter buzzing. Now it’s the Republicans’ turn. The first night of the Republican National Convention took place virtually across the U.S., with speeches from party officials former UN ambassador Nikki Haley. And early on, there was some official business as Republicans officially nominated President Donald Trump for re-election. While the Democrats leaned on star-power from the likes of Billie Eilish and John Legend, and a special shout out from Bruce Springsteen, big names from the music world are conspicuously absent from the Republican lineup. That hasn’t stopped artists and celebrities from stepping in and sharing their thoughts on the RNC, and the party’s message that a national “horror movie” would unfold should Trump lose in N...
Source: Alex Wong / Getty President Donald Trump continues to attempt to fleece the voting public out of the truth via reckless tweets spewing unsubstantiated facts that seem to resonate with his base. Twitter flagged a tweet from the former business mogul for spreading misinformation regarding the mail-in voting process that’s been proposed in the face of the current pandemic. On Sunday, Trump took to Twitter and shared the following with the masses. “So now the Democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they placed in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not Covid sanitized. A big fraud!” read Trump’s tweet. Twitter hid the tweet and added, “This Tw...
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has filed a petition against Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja, accusing him of accelerating hearing of a suit that is seeking to disqualify its governorship candidate in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. The ruling party, in the petition it forwarded to the Chief Judge of the High Court, Justice John Tsoho, requested the immediate withdrawal of the suit from Justice Taiwo to enable another judge to take over and hear the matter. In the petition dated August 20, which was signed by the National Secretary of the APC Caretaker Committee, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, the party, alleged that Justice Taiwo unnecessarily expedited hearing on the suit by granting abridgement of time to the plaintiffs when motion for such relief had not bee...

The governorship candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Hon Agboola Ajayi, has described the planned reduction of school fees of tertiary institutions by the state government as an afterthought. Ajayi said one of the reasons he fell out with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was the increase in school fees of the state-owned tertiary institutions without consideration of the earnings of parents. “The announcement by governor Akeredolu last week that he might consider school fees reduction when students are on holiday due to coronavirus pandemic was an afterthought as he was afraid of losing the October 10 governorship election. Ajayi Media Adviser Mr Allen Sowore in a statement said ‘the public would recall that one of the major disagreements between Agboola Ajayi and his boss the Governor was on...
This year’s Democratic National Convention turned into a star-studded virtual event thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, unintentionally helping it draw more viewers than the 2016 DNC. The four-night ceremony saw everyone from Billie Eilish to John Legend perform, with The Chicks stepping onstage to kick off the final night’s festivities on Thursday evening. The trio of Natalie Maines, Martie Erwin Maguire, and Emily Strayer appeared remotely to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner”. The Chicks have long been politically outspoken musicians. Ever since their hey-day when they denounced President George W. Bush for invading Iraq and kicking of a never-ending war, the country trio have tried to use their platform for good — even going so far as to retire their Dixie Chicks moniker earl...
During a presidential campaign, the vice presidential nominee typically serves as the attack dog. Former Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus certainly played that role during the final night of the Democratic National Convention. While serving as the evening’s host, Louis-Dreyfus repeatedly ripped Donald Trump with stinging one-liners. “Joe Biden goes to church so regularly that he doesn’t even need tear gas and a bunch of federalized troops to get there,” Louis-Dreyfus remarked at one point. Later, she proclaimed, “If we all vote there is nothing Facebook, Fox News or Vladimir Putin can do to stop us.” While recounting the time Biden reached out after reading an article about her in the Amtrak magazine Arrive, Louis-Dreyfus quipped, “Joe Biden not only knows how to read, but also, he reads ever...
