Police warns Zamfara APC against intervening in security issues
The Zamfara Police Command has warned the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state to avoid intervening in security issues. The State Police Commissioner, Usman Nagogo issued the warning in Gusau on Thursday at a press conference while reacting to a protest by some APC members at the Police headquarters on Sunday in Gusau. The protest was over alleged illegal arrest of 18 APC members by the police. The police had said that the 18 people were arrested over their alleged meeting with some repentant bandits. Police confirm DPO, Inspector’s death in Sokoto
The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and an Inspector attached to Gidan Madi Division in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state. The command’s Spokesman, DSP Sadiq Abubakar, told newsmen on Thursday in Sokoto that about 100 unknown gunmen invaded the town and engaged the police in a gun battle. Abubakar said the incident occured at about 1:30 a.m. and two officers, including Mr Aliyu Bello, the DPO, and Muhammad Abdullahi, an Inspector, were shot death by the the armed men dressed in army camouflage. Former Zamfara governor’s ally arrested over ‘secret meeting’ with bandits
Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have arrested Abu Dan-Tabawa, an ally of former Governor of the state, Abdulaziz Yari, after allegedly holding a secret meeting with bandits in Gusau, the state capital. The development was confirmed by the spokesman of the Zamfara State Police Command, Mohammed Shehu, in a statement on Sunday. Shehu said Dan-Tabawa was arrested along with 17 other suspects. Lagos Police command deploys 1,000 officers for Edo election
The Lagos State Police Command has deployed 1,000 officers to complement other security personnel drafted for the Edo governorship election scheduled for Sept. 19. INEC: Fire incident won’t affect Ondo election
Ahead of the October 10 gubernatorial election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Friday in Abuja said despite the fire incident that destroyed Card Readers meant for the election, the governorship poll will still go ahead as planned. The commission has also said it is not contemplating postponing the September 19 Edo election. 12 killed in Bangladesh gas explosion
A suspected gas explosion tore through a Bangladesh mosque killing at least 12 people while dozens suffered life-threatening burns, police said Saturday. Worshippers were at Friday evening prayers when the blast sent a ball of flames through the mosque in the central district of Narayanganj, emergency services said. The Police Command in Katsina State has killed 15 bandits and arrested 50 suspected kidnappers, bandits and cattle rustlers terrorising the people of the state. Mr Sanusi Buba, the Commissioner of Police in the state, disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday in Katsina. Buba said that the suspects were arrested in variou ambush operations carried out by the command in different locations. He said that the police recovered nine AK 47 rifles, 20 dane guns, 20 motorcycles and two vehicles from the suspects. Police in Anambra State have arrested a 41-year-old man, one Ogbonna Nwankwo, for attempting to kill a 29-year-old woman, and cut off her breast at a motel in Ihite town, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state. Two persons died on the spot while four others were seriously injured in an accident along Anthony-inward-Gbagada on Tuesday night in Lagos. The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed this to newsmen on Wednesday. Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA received distress calls on the accident, around 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
