Abia: Police go unconventional, places juju in front of station

The Nigerian police in Abia have adopted unconventional method of fighting crime by placing a deity-like juju on a check point in Umuahia, the state capital. The object was placed on St. Finbarr’s/Bende Roads Junction adjacent the Central Police Station (CPS), Umuahia. When newsmen visited the area, a policeman was seen posing with the juju as other policemen armed to the teeth were seen stationed strategically around the junction. Investigations revealed that unknown gunmen who of late have been burning police formations and killing policemen were reported to be wearing juju brackets ‘Odeshi’ on their waist which allegedly prevent bullets from piercing their bodies. Gunmen attack another Imo police station, kidnap one, injure others

Fear continues to pervade the atmosphere in Imo State as gunmen in the early hours of Thursday attacked the Mbieri Divisional Police Headquarters situated in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state. Our correspondent gathered from an indigene of Mbieri that the fleeing gunmen struck around 1am and immediately released the suspects in custody in the police facility. The gunmen also took away the phones belonging to suspects and the police operatives at the Division. Newly promoted AIG passes on

Less than one month after his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), former Benue State Commissioner of Police, who was later in charge of Armament, Omololu Bishi, has died. Bishi, a Lagos indigene, died yesterday after complaining of body ache. It was not clear if his death had anything to do with the ravaging coronavirus. Newsmen confirmed the death of Bishi through a police source, who said he was to be buried at the Ebony Vault in Lagos today. “Yes, he is dead. It’s unfortunate but true”, the source said.
