200,000 police attached to politicians – Ex-IGP
A former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, says over 200,000 police officers were attached to political elites, a practice he termed “policing the elites against policing security spaces.” He spoke at the second edition of the National Dialogue series of the Political Leadership and Training Institute (POLA) of former governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel held in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital. “We have about 400,000 police personnel in Nigeria and 200,000 of those officers are with the political elites. Security men repel bandit on the Kaduna-Abuja Road
Security operatives comprising of military and the police personnel, on Friday, successfully repelled armed bandit who opened fire on motorists plying the Kaduna-Abuja Road. Newsmen report that the incident occurred near Olam Feeds Company, but no arrest have been made. The Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, told newsmen at the scene of the incident that those injured, were first treated at Olam Feeds Clinic and later referred to a specialist hospital for comprehensive medical attention. Police arrest 46 ‘criminals’, recover N1.5m in Nasarawa
The Nigerian Police Nasarawa State Command has arrested 46 suspected criminals and recovered 1.5 million naira from its operations recently. Commissioner of police in Nasarawa, Bola Longe, disclosed this known to newsmen today at the police headquarters in Lafia. According to the police chief, 46 suspected criminals have been apprehended by police personnel. “We have arrested 46 sophisticated criminals and their breakdown is as follows: 1. armed robbery suspects – 19, 2. kidnapping suspects -14, number of suspected cultists – 6, number of fire arms recovered 11, number of live ammunitions recovered – 63, money recovered N1, 486, 40, number of motorcycles recovered -1“ he said.
