Edo deputy governor: Godfatherism bane of Nigeria’s democracy

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has blamed the advent of godfatherism in Nigeria’s politics as the bane of democracy in the country. This is even as he called for the removal of a bicameral legislature to reduce cost of running governance. Shaibu stated this on Saturday at the Government House in Benin, the state capital, while addressing hundreds of youths who were protesting alleged misrule in the country. The police in Ebonyi have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and ammunition in Isu in Onicha Local Government Area of the state. Armed men rob expatriate, kill orderly, driver in Umuahia

Dare-devil armed men attacked an expatriate in Umuahia, Abia State, on Friday, killing his police orderly and driver. The police spokesperson in Abia, Godfrey Ogbonna, who confirmed the attack, said the bandits robbed the expatriate of N3 million. Ogbonna, a superintendent of police, told reporters that the expatriate, said to be a Chinese, escaped unhurt. The man was said to have come from Aba to withdraw money from a bank in Umuahia and was returning, when the bandits trailed him. It was learnt that the man’s SUV was intercepted in a traffic hold-up on Mission Hill, near the office of the Nigerian Correctional Service at about noon. Lagos: Police rescue another abandoned one-month-old baby

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday, rescued another one-month-old female child that was abandoned at the junction of a popular petrol station, by Orile Bus Stop, Lagos. Time was about 8am when the baby was sighted by some passers-by who alerted the Police operatives attached to Orile Division of the Command before she was rescued and handed over to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja. Gunmen attack another Imo police station, kidnap one, injure others

Fear continues to pervade the atmosphere in Imo State as gunmen in the early hours of Thursday attacked the Mbieri Divisional Police Headquarters situated in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state. Anambra: Police arrest six ‘criminals’, recover Lexus jeep, SUV, two tricycles

Police operatives attached to Anambra State Command have gone offensive against criminal elements in the state, leading to the successful arrest of six criminal suspects involved in offences of unlawful possession of firearms, stealing and cultism. Police arrest two ‘armed robbers’ in Lekki

The Anti Crime Patrol team attached to Ilasan Division of the Lagos State Police Command, Saturday, arrested two suspected armed robbers on Lekki-Epe Expressway by Jakande area of Lagos State. The suspects are: Okorocha Covenant, 28; and Adigun Jeremiah, 27, both of Badagry Area of the state. The police operatives were said to have intercepted three gang members on a motorcycle. Bayelsa governor promises to investigate youth’s ‘death’ during police operation

The governor of Bayelsa, Douye Diri, has ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a youth on Thursday, in Ovom community, Yenagoa Local Government Area (LGA), of the state. Newsmen gathered from residents of the area that the young man was allegedly shot by a policeman, at Ovom surburb. Nigerian government seizes bank’s assets over Shell’s N183 billion debt

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 67 persons for allegedly looting and burning Police Stations during the #EndSARS protest in the state. The police said six AK 47 rifles, and several ammunition which were carted away from Police armouries of Ebut-Ero and Ilemba Hausa police stations were also recovered from the suspects. Police arrest 12 suspects over attack on police stations in Benin

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu, on Tuesday said that 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attacks and arson on Police Stations in Benin. In a statement in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba, disclosed that five AK47 rifles, earlier stolen from vandalised police stations, have also been recovered.
