Fans got the first taste of the partnership earlier this month with the release of the Red EP, which features three tracks from Vince Staples, Mabel, and Cyn. Next to take on the challenge is electronic music superstar ZHU. EDM.com can exclusively reveal that the Pokémon 25: The Blue EP will release this Friday, August 20th. ZHU, a lifelong Pokémon diehard, will transform each song into a celebratory remix for the brand’s 25th an...

Netflix to Catch ‘Em All with Live-Action Pokémon Series

“Netflix, I choose you!” As Variety reports, The Pokémon Company has struck a deal with Netflix to develop a new live-action series along the lines of… gulp… Pokémon Detective Pikachu. The show is in the early stages of development. While few details are known, this adaptation of the beloved video game/card game/anime empire will be helmed by Joe Henderson, who is currently the co-showrunner of the Netflix series Lucifer. Both Netflix and Pokémon have somewhat dubious histories of live-action adaptations. Pokémon Detective Pikachu had enough manic energy to satisfy kids in the audience, but the plot pacing could be frustrating for adults, and it failed to measure up to the likes of Pixar and Marvel in appealing to all ages. The Official Pokémon YouTube Uploaded a DJ Set from Pikachu With Remixes of the Game’s Music

Because why not, the official Pokémon YouTube channel uploaded a DJ set from Pikachu—and it’s electric. You’ll be shocked (sorry, can’t help these puns) to hear a few remixes of the video game’s iconic music. DJ Pikachu provides a jolt of old-school trap music right off the bat, dropping a remix of the 8-bit track that appeared on the title screen of the Pokémon Red and Blue Game Boy versions from 1996. He then cranks up the voltage with a drum & bass-hyperpop rework of the song while the camera frames him with the cheesy zoom-ins of an early 2000s DIY DJ hype reel. Situated in a miniature digitized DJ booth and flanked by an “amazing LED light show,” DJ Pikachu seems to be using our 90s Game Boy money to fund a promising DJ career. Word is...

Featuring none other than Pikachu, the tune is meant to put a smile on the faces of kids and adults alike during these difficult times. Pikotaro — the alter ego of comedian and music producer Daimao Kosaka — explains that he reached out to Pikachu to see if they could collab on a song for kids who aren’t able to play outside as much as they’d like to, even during summer vacation, because of the coronavirus and extreme heat that Japan is currently undergoing. The “PPAP” artist says he had always been a fan of the iconic Pokémon because of their matching yellow hues, and wrote the song based on what he imagines Pikachu is saying. The track and video features Pikotar...
