UK police seize $249.5 million worth of cryptocurrency
The British police on Tuesday said they have seized £180 million ($249.5 million) of an undisclosed cryptocurrency, as part of a money laundering investigation launched against organised crime groups that moved into cryptocurrencies in order to clean their money. The latest seizure happened in less than three weeks after the London police made a £114 million haul on June 24 as part of its money laundering investigation. Kano DisCo: Our meters not for sale
The Kano Electricity Distribution Company has warned that meter deployment and installation by its field officials remain free and not for sale. Official: NDLEA not recruiting
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has alerted the public on the activities of scammers taking advantage of the employment screening exercise conducted by the agency. Mr Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy of the agency in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja said that fraudster are demanding for payment from the shortlisted candidates. Newsmen reports that NDLEA had conducted screening for shortlisted candidates of narcotic officers and narcotic assistants. The agency had on May 12 and June 5, notified the public and job seekers to be wary of messages from persons claiming to be acting on behalf of NDLEA and demanding payments for employment. Katsina governor declares no negotiations with bandits
Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has announced his decision to stop further dialogue with bandits in the state due to their lack of central leadership and structure. Naira appreciates at N493 to dollar in parallel market
The naira, on Thursday, appreciated by 1.8 percent to N493 to a dollar at the parallel market as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) increased forex supplies to banks. The local currency, which opened at N502 per dollar, gained N17 to N485 during midday trading before closing at N493/$1, according to data on abokiFX.com, a website that collates parallel rates in Lagos. It also appreciated against the pound sterling to close at N710 and N600, gaining N3 and N6, respectively, on the street. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Sunday finally revealed the Facebook account of its chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa. EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed Mr Bawa’s only Facebook account as, @AbdulRasheedBawa. The commission had since Mr Bawa’s appointment late February pointed out fake accounts being operated on Facebook and Twitter in his name, and warned members of the public against having any dealing with them. India warns Twitter of consequences if it fails to follow new rules
India’s government has told Twitter it could face “unintended consequences” if it fails to comply with the country’s new social media rules, Reuters reported. India’s technology minister wrote in a June 5th letter to Twitter that the company’s responses to previous government letters about the new rules did not confirm whether Twitter was in full compliance, according to Reuters.
