The Annual Pokémon GO Fest is Turning Into a Music Festival in 2021

Pokémon GO Fest 2021 has become the annual mecca for the app’s avid fandom. For last year’s first-ever online-only event, Niantic confirmed millions of Trainers, who shattered records and caught nearly 1 billion Pokémon. While there were a staggering amount of participants at the 2020 event, the 2021 edition could be even bigger after Niantic, the game’s developer, announced that it will double as a music festival. “2021 marks both the twenty-fifth anniversary of Pokémon and the fifth anniversary of Pokémon Go,” Niantic shared in a blog post. “So trust us when we say you won’t want to miss Pokémon Go Fest 2021!”  The two-day event will kick off on July 17th and will be held exclusively online. Attendees will have the choice to select one of...

The Official Pokémon YouTube Uploaded a DJ Set from Pikachu With Remixes of the Game’s Music

DJ Pikachu provides a jolt of old-school trap music right off the bat, dropping a remix of the 8-bit track that appeared on the title screen of the Pokémon Red and Blue Game Boy versions from 1996. He then cranks up the voltage with a drum & bass-hyperpop rework of the song while the camera frames him with the cheesy zoom-ins of an early 2000s DIY DJ hype reel. Situated in a miniature digitized DJ booth and flanked by an “amazing LED light show,” DJ Pikachu seems to be using our 90s Game Boy money to fund a promising DJ career. Word is...

Pikotaro Collaborates With Pikachu on New Track ‘PIKA to PIKO’

J-pop viral sensation Pikotaro teamed up with a world-famous star on his latest track, called “PIKA to PIKO,” dropping Aug. 31. Featuring none other than Pikachu, the tune is meant to put a smile on the faces of kids and adults alike during these difficult times. Pikotaro — the alter ego of comedian and music producer Daimao Kosaka — explains that he reached out to Pikachu to see if they could collab on a song for kids who aren’t able to play outside as much as they’d like to, even during summer vacation, because of the coronavirus and extreme heat that Japan is currently undergoing. The “PPAP” artist says he had always been a fan of the iconic Pokémon because of their matching yellow hues, and wrote the song based on what he imagines Pikachu is saying. The track and video features Pikotar...
