Phoebe Bridgers joined The Jesus & Mary Chain Friday (June 24) at the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival to provide the female vocal part on their 1985 hit “Just Like Honey.” The group is no stranger to inviting guests on stage when they perform the classic track, having collaborated with Scarlett Johansson on it at the 2007 Coachella festival. [embedded content][embedded content] Bridgers made headlines during her own set earlier in the day at Glastonbury, when she led the audience in “fuck the Supreme Court” chant following the overturning of the landmark Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion in the United States. “Fuck that shit. Fuck America. Like, fuck you. All these irrelevant old motherfuckers trying to tell us what to do with our fucking bodies,” she said. Bridgers is on tour ...
Phoebe Bridgers saluted the patron saint of Asbury Park, N.J., last night (June 13) at The Stone Pony outdoor stage by closing her performance with a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Stolen Car.” Bridgers previously covered The Boss’ “I’m on Fire” during a 2018 concert at the city’s Asbury Lanes. The artist covered “Stolen Car” solo on electric guitar, stripping down the track from Springsteen’s 1980 classic The River to its bare essence. It concluded a set dominated by 11 songs from Bridgers’ latest album, Punisher, which was nominated for three Grammy awards. SPIN contributor Bobby Olivier captured the action, which you can see below. Bridgers is no stranger to cool covers, from Bo Burnham and The Replacements to Sinead O’Connor and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. She continues her tour to...
The wacky world of the little yellow Minions from the Despicable Me film franchise will be enhanced by the suitably eclectic soundtrack to the movie Minions: The Rise of Gru, which hits theaters July 1. The film is set in the 1970s and tells the origin story of super-villain Gru, so it’s only natural that the Jack Antonoff-produced soundtrack, also due July 1 from Decca, comprises mostly covers of memorable songs from that era by such artists Phoebe Bridgers (The Carpenters’ “Goodbye to Love”), Thundercat (Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like an Eagle”), H.E.R (Sly and the Family Stone’s “Dance to the Music”) and St. Vincent (Lipps Inc.’s “Funkytown”). One of the only newly written tunes is an eye-popping, danceable collaboration that will serve as the lead single: Diana Ross’ “Turn Up the Sunshi...
Phoebe Bridgers took the stage at Coachella for the first time last night. In addition to performing songs off her sophomore album Punisher, she also live-debuted her new single “Sidelines,” which was written for the upcoming Hulu series Conversations With Friends. But that wasn’t all Bridgers had up her sleeve. She also brought Arlo Parks onstage for her last two songs, “Graceland Too” and “I Know the End.” The moment wasn’t the first time the pair sang together. In 2020, they covered Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees.” Parks will play her own set at Coachella today. Bridgers embarked on her 2022 tour earlier this week. She’s set to perform at the second weekend of Coachella and then continue her tour throughout North America. In mid-June, the singer-songwriter will head over...
Phoebe Bridgers‘ latest track, “Sidelines,” which she teased earlier this week, is out now. “Sidelines” marks Bridgers’ first original song since her 2020 album Punisher. She created the track with Marshall More and Ruby Rain Henley, and it released via Dead Oceans. It will (oh, so sadly) be the only original song from Bridgers this year. This March, she released a live recording from Sound City of “Chinese Satellite,” which is the sixth track from her latest work. She recently helped out Bright Eyes for a cover of Elliott Smith’s “St. Ides Heaven,” and collaborated with Conor Oberst for a reimagining of a Bright Eyes song. Conversations With Friends is an adaptation of Sally Rooney’s book of the same name and premieres May 15 on Hulu. Bridgers embarked on her 2022 tour this week, as ...
Phoebe Bridgers isn’t done quite yet. The singer-songwriter announced plans for a massive 2022 run, picking up where she left off last year. Called the Reunion Tour, the jaunt kicks off on April 13 in Phoenix at the city’s Arizona Federal Theatre. Then Bridgers will perform at Coachella before returning on May 13 in Las Vegas for a month in the U.S. She’ll head to Europe in June for a month before returning stateside at the end of July. The tour will conclude with a hometown show in Pasadena at the This Ain’t No Picnic Festival. In 2020, Bridgers released Punisher and The Copycat Killer EP. Last year, she managed to get a bunch of old people up in arms when she smashed her guitar on Saturday Night Live. Phoebe Bridgers Reunion Tour Dates: 4/13: Arizona Federal Thea...
Phoebe Bridgers shared a cover of Billie Eilish‘s “When The Party’s Over” on her inaugural episode of Saddest Factory Radio on SiriusXM Thursday night. She stayed true to the moody original, singing mournfully atop sparse piano. “When The Party’s Over” originally came out in 2018 and was the second single off Eilish’s Grammy-winning debut album When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go? Listen to Bridgers’ cover below. Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Radio is named after the record label she founded in late 2020. When she revealed her latest endeavour, the singer-songwriter said “the vision of the label is simple: good songs, regardless of genre.” The first artist signed to the label was Claud, followed by MUNA and Charlie Hickey. After announcing it earlier this week, Bridgers spoke with Rolling S...
In the latest to her rapidly expanding Christmas catalogue, Phoebe Bridgers released a cover of Tom Waits’ 2004 song “Day After Tomorrow.” “Day After Tomorrow” is the 15th track off Waits’ Real Gone. All proceeds from Bridgers’ cover sales will go to The International Institute of Los Angeles – The Local Integration & Family Empowerment Division which provides refugees, immigrants, and survivors of human trafficking with skills, abilities, and resources to begin new lives in Southern California. Bridgers‘ cover of “Day After Tomorrow” was produced by Tony Berg, Ethan Gruska, and Bridgers. Musicians included Harrison Whitford, Marshall Vore, Rob Moose and Will Maclellan, and a choir including Z Berg, Kaitlyn Dever, Mady Dever, Ethan Gruska, Emily Kohavi, Blake Mills, Marcus Mumford, Ann...
On her current tour, Phoebe Bridgers has dazzled crowds across the country. One song in her set that she’s weaved in has been a cover of Bo Burnham’s “That Funny Feeling” during the encore of her sets. Additionally, Bridgers performed the Inside track with Burnham at a show at Los Angeles’ Largo at the Coronet in August. Now, there’s a recorded version to go along with it, which you can grab here. As part of Bandcamp Friday, Bridges shared a studio version of the song that she recorded in Los Angeles with a slew of musicians, including Tony Berg, Ethan Gruska, Christian Lee Hutson, Harrison Whitford, Rob Moose, Sebastian Steinberg, Marshall Vore, Nate Walcott and Maria Taylor. Proceeds from the song will go to Texas Abortion Funds and will be split evenly between Texas Equal Access Fund, T...
One of the biggest and much-deserved breakout stars of 2020 was Phoebe Bridgers. Her latest album, Punisher, was (and is) terrific and in the process, she played SNL earlier in this year and managed to anger people who ridiculously criticized her for smashing a guitar. Keyword: ridiculous. Finally, a year after Punisher, Bridgers will be hitting the road in support of the album. The tour kicks off on Sept. 3 at the Pageant in St. Louis and the six-week jaunt will see Bridgers play festivals, theaters and in the case of her hometown show in Los Angeles, amphitheaters. Though she had a bunch of livestreams throughout the pandemic, this will be Bridgers’ first proper headlining show since a November 2019 show at London’s Roundhouse. To get tickets, you’ll have to sign up for Ti...
