Phife Dawg’s Estate Details Posthumous Album Forever

On what would be the MC’s 51st birthday today, the estate of A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg detailed the forthcoming posthumous album Forever. It is set to debut on March 22, on the anniversary of Malik Izaak Taylor’s death in 2016. The New York-born rapper and 4x Grammy-nominee had partnered with trusted collaborators on Forever, and his estate alongside Smokin’ Needles Records are ready to release his final word as a solo MC. Forever will include “Nutshell PART 2” (featuring Busta Rhymes and Redman), which debuted earlier this year. Back in February, Phife Dawg’s estate released a new version of “Nutshell PART 2,” a song that was originally released in 2016 that featured none other than Busta Rhymes and Redman. The track hails from Forever, the upcoming posthumous album from Phife. A video came along with that release, and now there’s an even longer director’s cut of the clip available. Remembering Phife Dawg Five Years Later

Born in 1970, Phife Dawg grew up Malik Taylor writing poems and rapping around his native Queens, New York neighborhood before forming A Tribe Called Quest in 1985 with childhood friends Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Nicknamed “The Five-Foot Assassin,” or just “The Five-Footer” for his stature, Phife’s persona was both larger than life and beautifully honest. Through the decades, the band’s daring and eclectic style would forever change the landscape of alternative hip-hop. Though Tribe’s first album, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm (1990), mostly kept Q-Tip at the forefront, with their sophomore effort The Low End Theory (1991) Phife took on a larger role within the group.
