Conan O’Brien may not host a late night TV show anymore, but the best jokes find a way to transcend mediums. In a recent appearance on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Paul Rudd revived the duo’s iconic Mac and Me gag in a stunning commitment to the bit. In the interview, Rudd spends a good two-and-a-half minutes discussing a new Audible series he’s “working on.” “Adam Scott is in it, and Ken Moreno, who I think you know, and Celia Weston, who I actually did a play with many years ago,” Rudd says. “It’s about this guy named Ken Croft who’s hung his own shingle as being kind of a publicist — a low-rent publicist. And he is kind of really at the end of his rope.” The setup goes on and on, with Rudd adding incredible detail to the story while Conan listens intently. Eventua...
If you want proof of how off-guard New York City was for its biggest COVID surge in months, look no further than Saturday Night Live. Somehow the show had both assembled three strong home-produced pandemic episodes back in Spring 2020, and in an even more impressive/foolhardy feat, went back on the air the following fall. From September 2020 through last week, SNL hadn’t missed a planned episode or even retreated back to filmed-at-home pieces. This has arguably helped further cement the show’s cultural-event status that rankles its harshest critics. Virtually everything about the television landscape has changed over the past five years, but Saturday Night Live still does twentysomething live episodes per season that a fair number of people actually watch as they air. That was, until this ...
Billie Eilish will get a chance to show off her comedy chops as host of Saturday Night Live next month. The Happier Than Ever singer will pull double duty on the show’s December 11th episode, serving as both host and musical guest. The 21-year-old Eilish previously made her SNL debut as a musical guest in September 2019. She’s now set to join a rare crop of performers who pulled double duty as host and musical guest on the same episode. To date, 41 artists can claim that feat, with Nick Jonas being the most recent one in 2020. Following a double dose of Eilish, on December 18th SNL will stage its annual Christmas episode with Sexiest Man Alive, Paul Rudd, returning to host for his fifth time. He’ll be joined by musical guest Charli XCX, who previously appeared on the show way back in ...
Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell, and Kathryn Hahn are about to get psychological. Apple has just unveiled the first official trailer for their new limited series The Shrink Next Door, and it sees all three actors stirring up a unique blend of dark comedy chaos. Check it out below. The Shrink Next Door is about the bizarre relationship that New Yorker Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell) forms with his psychiatrist Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd). As Dr. Ike begins to manipulate and exploit his client with some help from Marty’s unsuspecting wife Bonnie (Casey Wilson), Marty remains blind to it all while his no-nonsense sister Phyllis (Hahn) starts to suspect something — though not until the saga goes on for nearly three decades. In the trailer, we get our first glimpse of Ferrell as Marty, the own...
Fictional or not, Marvel’s The Avengers are assembling in support of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. As Variety reports, the blockbuster stars behind Disney’s billion-dollar franchise will soon get together for a virtual fundraiser. Set for October 20th at 6:45 p.m. ET, the event will see Don Cheadle, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, and the Russo brothers reunite for some Q&A and trivia with Harris. Most of these names should come as no surprise for anyone. After all, both Evans and Ruffalo alone have been incredibly vocal over the importance of this election. Some have even pestered Cap on whether he might one day run himself. Of course, that roster is about a third of the actual on-screen Avengers, which certainly leaves the door open for countless...
Clueless came out in theaters 25 years ago today, but that doesn’t mean you have to be totally buggin’. The rom-com centered around a rich girl from Beverly Hills trying to navigate her life — who helps the new, totally clueless kid on the block fit in — has become a cult classic. And it only gets more and more popular with each new generation of teens. If you’ve seen Clueless, you totally get why, too. I don’t know about you, but I still wish I had Cher’s epic closet — complete with a capable-looking outfit from Fred Segal, of course — and it never gets old watching her hilarious attempts at getting a driver’s license. Oh, and do any of us ever tire of watching a young Paul Rudd (who paved the way for many girls’ crushes on nerdy, alternative guys) poorly dance his way into her heart? On ...
