Paul McCartney, Adele, Bono & More Musicians and Music Execs Honored by Queen Elizabeth II

During Queen Elizabeth II’s more than 70-year reign, dozens of major music industry names were honored under the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, the order of chivalry designed to reward British individuals who have contributed to the arts and sciences, charity and public service in the U.K. This has included both famous and behind-the-scenes players in the industry, ranging from Elton John to Universal Music Group chairman Lucian Grainge. The five classes of the Order of the British Empire, in descending order of importance, are: Knight and Dame Grand Cross (GBE), Knight and Dame Commander (KBE and DBE, respectively), Commander (CBE), Officer (OBE) and Member (MBE). Not all music luminaries who have been offered these titles have accepted them. David Bowie famously turned down ...

For hardcore fans, the big ticket will be 31 “session takes and home demos” from the Revolver period. Paul McCartney, Taylor Hawkins’ Son Shane Help Foo Fighters Close London Tribute Concert

After hours of emceeing and playing various instruments for other acts, Dave Grohl closed out the Taylor Hawkins tribute in London with the surviving members of Foo Fighters and surprise guest Paul McCartney. Though no one can replace Hawkins behind the kit, the Foos were joined by a number of drummers during their set, including Josh Freese on “Times Like These” and “All My Life,” Travis Barker on “The Pretender” and “Monkey Wrench,” Rufus Taylor on “These Days and “Best of You,” 12-year-old phenom Nandi Bushell on “Learn To Fly” and Hawkins’ 16-year-old son Shane, who was absolutely thunderous on “My Hero.” “Pulling this whole thing together over the last three months, we met some really amazing people — people I’ve never met before,” Dave Grohl said after “Best of You.” “One of them, I ...

Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen Join Paul McCartney During Glastonbury Set

In Saturday’s main event at Glastonbury, Paul McCartney had a couple of major surprises for those who attended the festival English countryside. First up: Dave Grohl. In what is his first public appearance onstage since his Foo Fighters bandmate Taylor Hawkins died in March, Grohl joined McCartney on the Pyramid Stage for a garage rock version of The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There” and Wings’ “Band on the Run.” Before Grohl popped up, McCartney told the crowd that “This guy flew in specially to do this.” Following the songs, according to the BBC, Grohl said “but I swear, I would never miss being here with you right here, right now.” “We love you Dave,” McCartney said in response. Last October, McCartney inducted the Foo Fighters into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Following Grohl’s su...

Sean Ono Lennon Covers ‘Here, There and Everywhere’ For Paul McCartney’s 80th Birthday

Paul McCartney turned the big 8-0 on Saturday, and Sean Ono Lennon was one of the many people who celebrated via social media. John Lennon’s youngest son took to Instagram for an acoustic cover of the Beatles’ Revolver cut “Here, There and Everywhere.” “A little birdy told me this was one of your your fav Beatles tunes. So Happy Birthday!” Lennon captioned the video. “Thank you for all the beautiful music. You have mine and the whole world’s undying love and respect. (This version is a bit rough because it’s such a pretty song I kept getting choked up and starting again!)” Watch the cover below. McCartney celebrated his birthday early by bringing out Bruce Springsteen during his show at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on Thursday night. Together, they performed the Boss’s “Glory Day...

Watch Bruce Springsteen Perform Two Songs With Paul McCartney in New Jersey

Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney have caused trouble before. In 2012, Macca showed up at Springsteen’s show in London in Hyde Park where they played until the last minute and subsequently had the power clipped by the authorities. So, what better thing for the Boss to do than to return the favor, well, sort of. This wasn’t their first time performing since then. In 2017, Springsteen and “Little” Steven Van Zandt joined McCartney at Madison Square Garden to perform “I Saw Her Standing There” twice.  On Thursday night at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, Springsteen joined McCartney (which he called a birthday present to himself (he turns 80 this weekend) for a version of his “Glory Days” and The Beatles’ “I Wanna Be Your Man.” Paul McCartney + Bruce Springsteen in Jersey. 💀 #Glo...

Paul McCartney Kicks Off His Tour in Spokane With a Little Help From His Friends

The emotion started welling up during, of all songs, “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.” Something about the sight of a gaggle of teen girls, singing the nonsense chorus of that White Album classic started to crack my critical resolve. By the time Paul McCartney hit the chords of “Hey Jude,” already two-plus hours into the opening night of his 2022 American tour, the tears were soaking into my face mask.  This was not the reaction I anticipated having after a long drive to Spokane, Washington to be on hand for the kick-off of this 16-date run of shows. Going into the evening, I was carrying with me a not-too-small amount of Macca fatigue. Even during a global pandemic, the man was everywhere. Unpacking his career amid artful lighting with Rick Rubin. Straining to keep his former band together while...

Paul McCartney Salutes Taylor Hawkins: ‘A True Rock And Roll Hero’

Tributes continue to pour in for Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died suddenly on March 25 in Bogota at the age of 50. Paul McCartney, who inducted the Foos into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, is the latest to weigh in, calling Hawkins “a true rock and roll hero” who “will always remain in my heart” in an Instagram post. McCartney had been friendly with the Foos for some time before the band asked him to play drums on the Hawkins-sung track “Sunday Rain” from their 2017 album Concrete and Gold. “This request came from a group with TWO amazing drummers! It was an incredible session and cemented my relationship with Taylor and the guys,” McCartney said. In 2021, the former Beatle accepted the Foos invitation to induct them into the Rock Hall and sang on their cover of the...

Paul McCartney Details 2022 Got Back North American Tour

Riding high on all of these Beatles hoopla of the past few months (perhaps not that he needed to anyway), Paul McCartney will be returning to the road. Macca announced a string of North American tour dates beginning on April 28 in Spokane, Washington at the city’s Spokane Arena. “I said at the end of the last tour that I’d see you next time. I said I was going to get back to you. Well, I got back!” McCartney said in an announcement. These are McCartney’s first tour dates since 2019, which he ended with a memorable performance at Dodger Stadium where brought out former bandmate Ringo Starr for some Beatles songs. No guarantees on that this time around but it should be fun regardless. Tickets for the shows go on sale to the public beginning Friday, February 25 at 10 am local time. American E...

Why the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Was the Best in Years

After skipping a year due to the pandemic, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted its 2021 class with a wild, surprise-guest-filled party held in the town many argue is the ceremony’s only rightful home: Cleveland, Ohio. What a homecoming it was.  Paul McCartney became a seventh Foo Fighter. LL Cool J, Eminem, and J. Lo blew up the night like old-school hip-hop Avengers. And later, LL was the only person on the arena floor to stand and clap for the late, great Biz Markie. Both Carli(s)les — Brandi and Belinda — were in the house. Drew Barrymore did Ponds performance art.  [embedded content][embedded content] The Go-Go’s swore to use their induction to get more female bands into the painfully male-dominated institution. And, randomly, Survivor host Jeff Probst was there — the sol...

Watch Foo Fighters Play the Beatles’ ‘Get Back’ With Paul McCartney at Rock Hall Induction

Foo Fighters were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last night by none other than Paul McCartney. During his powerful introduction speech, Macca likened his experience in the Beatles to Dave Grohl‘s experience in Nirvana. “We had a great time with our groups, but then eventually tragedy happened, and my group broke up. The same happened with Dave: His group broke up under tragic circumstances. And so then the question is, what do you do now?” he said. “And we both were presented with that question. In my case, I thought, ‘Well, I’ll make an album where I play all the instruments myself.’ So I did that. Dave’s group broke up — what’s he do? He makes an album where he plays all the instruments himself. Do you think this guy’s stalking me?” After giving a short but sweet speech o...
