Angelina Jolie will tell the tragic final days of the great opera singer Maria Callas in the new biopic, Maria. Via Variety, the film comes from Pablo Larraín, who recently directed Kristen Stewart to her first Oscar nomination as Princess Diana in Spencer. From the 1940s through her death in 1977 at the age of 53, Callas was one of the most famous opera singers in the world. But her once-unparalleled voice grew shaky in the later half of the 1950s, perhaps brought on by precipitous weight loss. In 1957, she left her career and her husband for Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, though he would end their relationship a decade later to marry Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis. Jonny Greenwood Releases Spencer Soundtrack: Stream
Jonny Greenwood’s original soundtrack to Spencer, the Kristen Stewart-starring biopic about Princess Diana and the dissolution of her marriage to Prince Charles, is here. The Radiohead guitarist’s latest soundtrack endeavor is out now via Mercury KX, and can be streamed in full below via Apple Music or Spotify. The Spencer soundtrack includes the previously-released single “Crucifix.” As that song title implies, this isn’t exactly the feel-good score of the year, especially considering the film’s premise: It follows a Christmas holiday in 1991, during which Diana contemplates leaving Charles amid rumors of his infidelity and the pressure of being married into England’s most famous family. Jonny Greenwood to Score New Princess Diana Biopic Starring Kristen Stewart
Two icons known for bucking tradition and wearing bangs have been united at last. As The Film Stage reports, Radiohead‘s Jonny Greenwood will score the new film Spencer about Diana Frances Spencer, better known as Diana, Princess of Wales. It’s directed by Pablo Larrain and stars Kristen Stewart as the titular hero. The tale takes place over a Christmas weekend in December of 1991. Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles is imploding amidst rumors of his infidelities, and in 1992 they will separate. Spencer is set just before the separation, as a deeply-unhappy princess makes up her mind to leave. Filming has begun, and the movie is expected to bow sometime in the fall of 2021.
