Court dissolves 20-year-old marriage over ‘laziness, battery’

File Photo A housewife, Omolola Aluko, on Thursday requested a Customary Court, sitting at Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State to dissolve her 20-year-old marriage with her husband, Segun, over constant beating. Omolola, who resides at Oluwo area in Ibadan, made the request while testifying before the court’s President, Chief Ademola Odunade. Nigeria confirms 476 new virus cases

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), has confirmed 476 new cases of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in the country. The NCDC confirmed this through its official Twitter handle on Thursday. The agency said that seven deaths were recorded in the country. NCDC said that till date, 50,964 cases have been confirmed, 37,569, discharged and 992 deaths recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. According to it, the 476 new cases are reported from 18 states. It said that Lagos has the highest figures of 235 cases, followed by FCT with 44 cases. Others were Kaduna (41), Borno (33), Plateau (28), Abia (13), Edo (13), Rivers (12), Imo (11), Oyo (10), Kano (9), Kwara (7), Enugu (5), Katsina (5), Gombe (4), Ogun (4), Nasarawa (1), and Zamfara (1). Plateau leads with 186 coronavirus cases as NCDC announces fresh 593

Plateau recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with 186 new infections, as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 593 new cases in the country. The NCDC made this known on its official twitter handle. The health agency noted that four deaths were recorded in the country. The NCDC said that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, had continued to coordinate the national response activities across the country. According to the centre, 50,488 cases have been confirmed, with 37,304 cases discharged, while 985 deaths recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) till date. Oyo deputy governor empowers 500 youths with farmland

The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, has donated 250 acres of land in Oyo North to youths for cassava cultivation. The Coordinator of Oke-Ogun Green Revolution, Mr Bola Olalere, announced the donation in a statement in Iseyin on Tuesday. NDLEA arrests soldier with arms, cannabis

A 25 year old soldier, Mohammed Kashim, has been arrested in Yobe State in possession of arms and some quantity of cannabis sativa, otherwise known as Indian hemp. The soldier was apprehended by men of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) along Nguru/Hadeja road. The Assistant State Commander Administration and Logistic, Mr. Julius Zer, who is also the Acting State Commander of the NDLEA in Yobe state disclosed that the soldier was arrested on Thursday July 30, 2020 with 30 rounds of live ammunitions with a magazine and 1kg of cannabis sativa. Oyo to set up employment scheme for repatriated indigenes

The Oyo State Government says it is working toward setting up an employment scheme that will provide work opportunities for its repatriated indigenes. The Oyo State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism stated this in a statement it issued on Wednesday in Ibadan. Stakeholders in education have commended the Federal Government’s decision made at the stakeholders’ consultative meeting to reopen school on Aug. 4 for exit classes. Newsmen report that they made this known in Ibadan on Monday in separate interviews.
