‘Fulani herdsmen’ clash with Amotekun officials, vigilantes in Oyo

Three people have sustained injuries following a bloody clash between Fulani and Yoruba at Aba Abugudu Market in the Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State. It was gathered that two officials of Amotekun and a vigilante were injured during the fight which happened on Monday, March 1. According to newsmen, the Amotekun operatives identified as Michael Oguntade and Yekini Tijani and the vigilante were trying to break the fight when a Fulani man drew out his cutlass and attacked them and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on them. NIHORT trains 25 tomato farmers in Niger to reduce post-harvest losses, unemployment

The National Institute of Horticultural Research (NIHORT), Ibadan, Oyo State, has commenced a 2-day training for unemployed youths and women, on value addition for tomato farmers. The training is taking place at the headquarters of The National Cereals Research Institute (NCRI), Badeggi, in Niger state. Speaking at the opening ceremony on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Institute, Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Abdullahi-Garba (rtd), said that the training was organized to build the capacity of the people. Ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, is brokering peace between former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde. OPC nabs four ‘kidnappers’ in Ibarapa

The Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, in Oyo State said yesterday that it arrested four suspected Kidnappers in the Ibarapa, area of the state. The group, under the supervision of its state coordinator, Mr Rotimi Olumo, said it made huge progress with the arrest of the second in command to the dreaded kidnapper, Wakilu, Isiaka Muhammadu was also arrested. The arrest was made around 1 pm on Friday, while the OPC was on a search mission for the dreaded Wakilu that had been terrorising the entire area. The Department of State Services, DSS, has denied attempting to arrest Yoruba activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. However, in a statement, DSS denied that they made a grab for Igboho. In the statement by Peter Afunanya, Public Relations Officer, DSS described the reports as “misinforming” and “fake”. Oyo governor to declare Hijrah holiday from next year

Oyo governor imposes curfew on Sasa over killings

Following the over 48 hours of killing and destruction of property at Sasa market, in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has imposed a curfew on the area. Oyo Amotekun leader dies in accident caused by pothole

A leader of Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, Tajudeen Salaudeen, has reportedly died in an accident. He was said to have crashed his motorcycle when trying to avoid a pothole on Thursday at Sawmill area, on Ilero road. Newsmen gathered that the deceased was going to Okeho in the early hours of Thursday when he got a call to come back for an emergency assignment at Ilero. Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) on Saturday accused the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Mohammed Adamu of partiality and double standards by ordering the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko to arrest the Yoruba Ethnic Rights Activist, Mr. Sunday Ighoho.
