Aside from a new winter coat, there is little that gets us as excited as new boots. The thing is, though, as much as we love boots, they can often result in some tricky decisions. By the time you’ve made up your mind whether you’re going to opt for knee-high boots, chunky Chelsea boots or this season’s key style, cowboy boots, their versatility means we then have to rack our brains for what to pair them with. When these moments hit and I find I have too many boot outfits to choose from, I always head back to basics. Be it a pair of comfy leggings elevated with a pair of glossy knee-highs or your favourite straight-leg jeans that sit just over your new pair of ankle boots, classic items are sure to take all the stress out of getting dressed. To make th...
Few things are worth getting out of bed early on a weekend for, but one thing that in my eyes is 100% worth it is brunch. I’ll happily emerge from my duvet cocoon at the first mention of buttermilk pancakes or gooey eggs florentine. The brunch (and really, weekend in general) dress code varies depending on what your plans are and where you’re off to. If you’re a regular at your local café, a casual jeans-and-tee combo will suffice. In some city locations, on the other hand, an elevated getup feels more appropriate—especially if your meal is served with mimosas. Plus, when you’re finally out-of-office, I feel one should always seize the opportunity to get a little dressed up! At this point, I’m a bona fide brunch expert, so I feel ...
Every month we invite a dresser we admire to showcase the wardrobe staple they couldn’t live without in a series of ways—five ways to be precise. And this month, we’re taking a discerning look at the versatility of the striped shirt, with influencer Chiara Perera as our guide. A stripe shirt is acknowledged as a forever staple for many. It has been reimagined, and deconstructed and reworked by many designers. But the OG stripe shirt lives on as one of the must haves in everyones wardrobes. It is a classic in my wardrobe and is the ultimate styling tool for me. My favourite iteration comes from With Nothing Underneath, as I love the width and placement of the blue and white stripes, and the perfectly oversized fit. However, there are plenty of striped shirt options ou...
With the temperatures dropping and the big c-word (Christmas!) floating in the air, it’s safe to say that there’s only been one thing on my mind this week: coats. As a self-declared coat fanatic, I pride myself on being able to make most styles, colours, fits and shapes work in my wardrobe, from a puffer at the weekend to a satin trench on a night out, a classic wool coat for work to a cropped jacket for special occasions. However, there is one style that I am yet to invest in but that has most certainly caught my eye this season and that’s a camel coat. Elegant, timeless and endlessly versatile, the camel coat is largely considered to be one of the hardest working pieces in one’s wardrobe, so with that in mind I’ve decided that 2022 is the year I take the plunge and...
Let’s face it: there’s a time and a place for heels, but not all of us possess the poise, grace and balance needed to pull them off on a daily basis. Yes, I’m talking about myself. Don’t get me wrong— I’m partial to a low-heeled boot in the autumn and a platform sandal in the summer. But when I have things to do and places to be, nine times out of ten I’ll opt for a flat sole. Comfort and ease of getting around is my main motivator, but these key factors aside, there’s no denying that flat shoes offer a certain effortlessness that’s difficult to replicate with heels. Between Mary Janes, ballet pumps, Chelsea boots and the comfiest of all, trainers, us fashion enthusiasts have plenty of flat footwear options that are bang-on-trend and don’t require us to...
The blazer as a wardrobe staple has well and truly passed trend status and become a full-fledged capsule hero piece. I now have upwards of eight in my collection (how many is too many?), and I’d go so far as to say they are the hardest-working items in my closet, so much so that I can’t remember what I wore before blazers were a thing. Answers on a postcard, please. This specific Arket style comes in a few colourways from classics to bold brights, and more often than not, it’s sold out in a lot of them. I actually own both the camel and the black because I’m a big believer in investing when you find an item you love and wear time and time again. I probably wear mine most often with jeans and a white T-shirt, switching in heels, loafers or boots depending on the event. But to showcase ...
The humble cardigan. Simultaneously an enduring staple and the sartorial equivalent of a hug, this knitted style comes in many forms. Whether cropped, wrap-around, embellished or patterned, cardigans are undoubtedly one of the most exciting items to bust out of storage and give pride of place in our autumn/winter wardrobes. But as with any basic, one can easily fall into the same old patterns and lean on a handful of outfit formulas. Personally, I like to button mine up most of the way and tuck it into a pair of relaxed-fit jeans. Or, if I’m wearing a midi dress, I treat it as a cosy layer to keep on hand for when I need it. Keen to broaden my knitwear horizons, I took to Instagram to absorb some fresh inspiration. From casual girl-about-t...
Whether you’re a karaoke-and-cocktails kind of person or prefer a quiet drink and a bite to eat at your pub, we’re willing to bet that you already have a going-out uniform that you subscribe to. Still, after months of having little to look forward to on the weekend other than a takeaway and a box set, now that our favourite after-dark haunts have opened once again, we’re finding that we don’t have the energy to dress up in fancy clothes like we used to. Cue the casual going-out outfits. It’s good to shake up your outfits from time to time, and there are plenty of laid-back but chic looks to try for your next night out. Some of our favourite fashion people who have once again embraced going out at night have lots of fresh new outfit ideas, which, you’ll b...
Some of us might have had a break from wearing jeans over the last few months; that, or you’ve at least been wearing them less during the summer period. Now, however, as we begin to fully embrace autumn and the cooling temperatures it brings, we thought it was the perfect time to revisit some classic blue jeans outfits to inspire us for the season ahead. Jeans are an integral part of our autumn capsule wardrobes. We need not go into detail on how versatile they can be—we’re sure you’re well aware of the fact they can be dressed up or down with a few clever switches. But when it comes to styling them with pieces you already own, it’s always handy to have a refresher. Below we’ve curated an edit of ten classic jeans outfits that should be easy for you to re...
At this time of year, skirts are a hard-and-fast staple. Whether you lean towards the knitted, silky or mini variety, there’s no doubting that this chic choice of bottoms is endlessly versatile and cold-weather appropriate—particularly when worn with thick black tights. Ankle boots sit right up there with skirts on the top tier of autumn essentials. So it makes sense that we would style these two hero items together. Certain outfit formulas work every time, but landing on the right combinations is often a process of trial and error. Luckily, we’ve consulted the It girls of Instagram to teach us a few lessons in pairing ankle boots with skirts so you can skip ahead to the good part: wearing your winning look. Scroll on...
I have to admit I used to think wide-leg trousers were a difficult trend to wear, especially since I’m only 5’2”, but H&M’s styles completely changed my opinion. Although they give that smart, tailored look, they were all surprisingly comfortable. They’ve become my go to for office days, but I’ve also taken to wearing them while working from home so I can still feel a bit polished. Undeniably wide-legs are a new staple in my wardrobe (sorry, jeans), especially since they’re surprisingly versatile when it comes to shoe pairings too—they work with trainers, boots, loafers and even chunky sandals as we see this summer out. Below, you’ll find my verdict on the 5 best new-in pairs I tried recently, as well as links to more of H&M’s c...
It’s official: Autumn is coming. Leaves will soon be turning delightful colours, and there’s pumpkin carving and even talk of party season approaching. However, there’s another important matter we have to address. Now that it’s getting colder, with temps hitting the low-to-mid teens, what do you wear in 15-degree weather? Luckily, we’ve sorted through some key pieces to have on standby to help answer that major question. Fifteen degrees might seem chilly, but it’s actually a pretty comfortable temperature—not too hot but not too cold. Still, this indeterminate forecast is difficult to dress for. Wear too thick a knit and you’ll feel flushed, but breezy, lightweight textures like linen might feel too cool...
