NAFEST: Nigeria will lead the world – Senator Okorocha

Sen. Rochas Okorocha, Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, has expressed greater hope that Nigeria will definitely lead the world with the vast culture and tourism potential. Okorocha said this at opening ceremony of the 33rd National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) held at Rwang Pam Township Stadium, Jos, Plateau on Monday. The theme of the event was “COVID-19 and Cultural Dynamism”. Nigeria ratifies membership of AfCFTA

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, on Wednesday ratified Nigeria’s membership of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, as the implementation of the agreement formally takes-off on January 1, 2021. This is as the Council has approved N62.7 billion for the construction of Kano-Dawakin-Tofa-Gwarzo-Dariyo road in Kano. 200,000 police attached to politicians – Ex-IGP

A former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, says over 200,000 police officers were attached to political elites, a practice he termed “policing the elites against policing security spaces.” He spoke at the second edition of the National Dialogue series of the Political Leadership and Training Institute (POLA) of former governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel held in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital. “We have about 400,000 police personnel in Nigeria and 200,000 of those officers are with the political elites. In what appeared like a way of appeasing the aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday sent a list of seven new commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly. The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye read the names of the nominees on the floor of the House of this morning. Sometime early last month, Governor Fayemi had set up a peace and reconciliation committee, led by the immediate past Chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe, to reconcile aggrieved members of the party, who had been complaining of being sidelined in appointment and patronage. NIMASA assures dockworkers of improved welfare

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has assured stakeholders of its commitment to the protection of the rights and welfare of dockworkers as guaranteed in the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Decent Work Agenda. The Agency’s Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services, Mr. Victor Ochei, gave the assurance in Lagos during a meeting of the National Joint Industrial Council (NJIC). The meeting discussed a revised minimum wage and improved living standard for dockworkers through the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) initiative endorsed by NIMASA and NJIC in 2018. The oaths of office which was done in batches of 15 persons were administered by a lawyer and notary public, Victor Owokoya and Oluwatoyin Omomehin, respectively.
