Former Oyo lawmaker arrested over ‘assault’ on APC leader

A former Oyo State House of Assembly member, Mr Wasiu Lafioye Akinmoyede, has been arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting a leader of the All Progressives Congress in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State. Akinmoyede, who represented Lagelu State consistency in the 8th Assembly, reportedly broke a chair on the head of a former House of Representatives member and chieftain of APC in the local government, Mr Remi Adebayo. He was reportedly arrested yesterday by one SP. Bolaji from Zone 11, Osogbo, Osun State. Osun SSG, 21 others recover from coronavirus

Mr Wole Oyebamiji, Secretary to Osun State Government (SSG), who was earlier tested positive to Coronavirus, has recovered from the virus. Dr Rafiu Isamotu, the state Commissioner for Health, said in a statement in Osogbo on Saturday that the SSG and 21 other patients had also tested negative to the virus. Newsmen report that the state commissioner for health had on July 1 announced that the SSG and some of his staff had tested positive to the virus. The commissioner said that the test conducted on the SSG on Friday after days of treatment returned negative. He also noted that some of the staff of the SSG, who had previously tested positive to the virus, were among those that tested negative. Man sentenced to death by hanging for murder

File Photo An Osun State High Court sitting in Ile Ife has sentenced a 37-years old man, Oluleke Ogunyemi to death by hanging for alleged murder. Ogunyemi was said to have killed one Moshood Babalola on 17th of February 2010 at about 10am at a village called Agbedegbede in Ile Ife, Osun State. Ogunyemi was arraigned on 6th March, 2013 on two counts charge murder and conspiracy to murder an ofgence contrary to section 319 and 324 criminal Code Laws cap 34, Laws of Osun State. Ogunyemi was said to have killed Moshood Babalola by cutting off his head with knife and kept his lifeless body in the house at Iredunmi Area in Ile Ife. Osun threatens fresh lockdown as state records 22 new coronavirus cases

Osun State Government on Friday confirmed the discovery of 22 new COVID-19 cases in the state. Coming barely 24 hours after the discovery of 17 cases, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu, noted that government might be forced to impose another lockdown on the state if residents and citizens continued to flout the lockdown relaxation guidelines. Isamotu stated this in a press statement in Osogbo on Friday. Nigeria: 10 die of coronavirus in Kano, Ogun, three other states

No fewer than seven patients died of coronavirus-related complications in Kano and Ogun states on Friday. Three other patients also died of COVID-19 in Bauchi, Kaduna and Sokoto. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known in its 70th Situation Report on COVID-19 published on Saturday. Ekiti court imposes N40,000 fine on man for not wearing face mask

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State has fined a man, Ikechukwu Vincent, N40,000 for contravening the order on the use of face mask in the state. It will be recalled that governors in South-West agreed on mandatory use of face masks by residents as part of measures in containing the spread of coronavirus. Director of Public Prosecutions in the state, Julius Ajibare, told the court that the suspect committed the offence on Friday around Fajuyi park in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
