Met Opera Concert to Mark Anniversary of Ukraine Invasion

The Metropolitan Opera in New York will mark the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with a concert to remember victims of the war. Met music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct Mozart’s Requiem and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Soprano Golda Schultz, mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo, tenor Dmytro Popov, and Ukrainian bass-baritone Vladyslav Buialskyi will be the soloists at the Feb. 24 performance. “Mozart’s Requiem is to remember the innocent victims of the war, and Beethoven’s Fifth is in anticipation of the victory to come,” Met general manager Peter Gelb said in a statement Friday (Jan. 20). MTN Users Can Get 3GBs of Free Data by Using This Web Browser

Opera, the company that maintains the Opera and Opera Mini web browsers has partnered with MTN South Africa to provide South African users with 3GB each of free data per month while they are using Opera internet browsers. The offer is effective immediately with no sign-up required by users, only that they browse the internet using Opera browsers and be using MTN as their operator. The company says that in July 2022 alone, Opera and MTN delivered a total of 17.7 petabytes (1 petabyte is 1,024 terabytes) of free data to 5.9 million users in South Africa. Soprano Angel Blue says she won’t perform in an opera in Italy this month because blackface was used in the staging of a different work this summer on the same stage. The U.S. singer posted a note on her Instagram page saying she will be bowing out of La Traviata at Verona’s Arena this month because the theater recently mounted another Giuseppe Verdi opera, Aida, that had performers in blackface. Opera Crypto Browser is now available on iPhones and iPads

Opera released a beta version of its Web3 browser with a built-in crypto wallet on Friday for iOS devices, iPhone and iPad. Opera’s Crypto Browser has been available for Mac and Windows desktop users, as well as Android mobile users since January. Opera, one of the major crypto-friendly internet browsers, announced the integration of eight blockchains in a continued effort to introduce Web3 to more than 380 million mobile and desktop users worldwide. In Jan. 2022, Opera launched the Crypto Browser project, a Web3-focused initiative for facilitating navigation across decentralized applications (DApp), games and metaverse platforms. Opera, the Norway-based company behind the popular internet browser, has released the beta version of its new Crypto Browser Project. This crypto browser aims to facilitate the user experience of browsing DApps, games and metaverse platforms by offering direct access to Web3 services for Windows, Mac and Android users.  The current Opera browser boasts a no-login VPN, and native ad & tracker blocker that help to make it secure.
